not my cup of tea
It would have been wise to mention "Windows only" in the piece.
ZipLip meets my needs quite well for now. -
what's wrong with??
what's wrong with hushmail or ziplip??
both are web accessible and secure as long as you talk to others that are also on the same system. hushmail uses a java applet and depending on which version you are using the blowfish algorithm or a PGP spin-off. off the top of my head, I don't recall what ziplip uses.

Encrypted E-MailPersonally, I use about five different webmail providers for different things.
For encrypted e-mail I use http://www.ziplip.com.Although the site is fairly slow to load, it has a 128-bit SSL connection from the word "go", never going into plaintext. You can send normal e-mails with it, or (unlike HushMail), you can send "Secure E-Mail".
The secure function takes the form of of sending the recipient a message saying "You have been sent a message by Anonymous12131243243@1243.4232.com (or some such). The recipient then clicks on the link, and is presented with a SSL-secured connection to ZipLip. They then enter the password you supplied them with (over the phone or whatever), or they can guess the password using the optional Hint. Then they can read the message. After they have read it, it's wiped from the server.
You can also tell the server to wipe messages 12-hours, 24-hours, 48-hours, one week etc. after sending - just in case the person never checks the e-mail.
Not a perfect solution to secure e-mail, but (IMHO) better than HushMail.

Try ZipLip
ZipLip.com provides secure web-based email, including SSL connection, good privacy policies, etc. Been using them for about 6 months, and I've had pretty good luck with them so far.

WTF? The FBI is paranoid about this!
Anyone working on this system (at whatever organization decides to test the Carnivore system) *must* be 'cleared' before they can work on this?
What a bunch of BS!
"What I don't want to see is a road map of the source code that could give the bad guys the ability to thwart this," [Assistant Attorney General Stephen Colgate] says. "If evaluators say there are security deficiencies that need to be addressed, that's precisely what we want them to address."
What about PGP? It seems like a VERY simple workaround for this system! Plus anyone with any brians could use something like yahoo mail or hotmail; or even better would be a service like www.ziplip.com. This is a waste of everyone's money; in fact, I believe the whole 'war on drugs' falls under the same category. This whole issue is just plain dumb.

Help destroy another patent (write GPL versions)
see ompages.com to break a patent
on the obvious idea of webmail that handles encryption keys that ziplip.com seeks to monopolize.
Free thought, free speech, anonymity, security, freedom!!!

ZipLip.com doing the same thing
Check out the website. Looks like more of the same.
