Hitler was clearly devout in his ramblings when he wrote his manifesto Mein Kampf, which, as with nearly every manifesto ever written, was written with a particular point of view in mind, to promote a particular philosophy, and without any real concern for political correctness (in contemporary terms) or expediency. It is believed by many (most?) historians that his writings were a reasonably sincere representation of his (admittedly twisted) beliefs, and those included belief in his religion.
It is also clear that he had political differences with the church (despite their close collaboration with the holocaust), and that he privately wished to subordinate the church beneath the state, or even replace it with a "purer" faith of his own devising. It is also clear that this notion came later in life, after he had ascended to power.
He was raised catholic.
He was a practicing catholic.
When he wrote his manifesto, he clearly believed in his religion quite strongly.
Whether his later belief faded and became political expediency, or remained, is openly debated.
By many people's definition of 'devout', he clearly falls within that categore early in life, and arguably until is death in 1945. By others he did not.
What is certain is that he was religious (the only argument among historians is to what degree), that his religion was Catholic, that the Catholic church actively supported and assisted in the holocaust, and that a great many people are doing their damndest to brush these facts under the rug, not least of them modern day Catholic apologists who are trying to spin Pope Pious as "secretly against hitler" (even though he actively gave financial and logistical support to the Nazis) and protestants who flat out lie, claiming Hitler was an athiest (whether or not he was 'devout', he was certainly not an athiest, nor was the Nazi party as a whole).

I think the real danger of homeschooling is that it is oh so tempting to homeschool your kid to be a proper little Christian/Muslim/Jew/some other kind of religious fanatic. In other words, many people choose to homeschool their kids not because they want them to receive better education (in science or humanities or whatever), but because they want to indoctrinate them properly against all those godless heathen demon-spawn that our public schools are supposedly filled with. That kind of "education" is worse than none at all; we have enough zealots as it is.
Perhaps the majority of Western Countries based their laws on the tenets of Christianity, but America is one notable exception. Our rules were based largely on Deistic principles and on general ethics and were specifically engineered not to value religion. Dubious? Read The Godless Constitution. Or consider this: despite the fact that many Americans claim the US Constition was based on the Bible and that it was founded by Christians, so we are a Christian nation, the founders specifically chose not only to exclude Christianity from the Constitution (which was a cause of debate throughout the States), but to specifically prohibit religious tests as requirements for holding public office. One can be ethical and can have morals without religion.

Please, it's more common for young people in the USA today to be atheist or not practice any religion than anything else. The ones who are devout I give more credit to because they go against the grain. American culture is not religious, the culture war was lost a long time ago to the godless left.

Actually, a closer look at Orwell's other writing will show you that Animal Farm was meant as an allegory on all forms of powermad regimes using a revolution to grab power.
It's unfortunate that the closest thing Orwell had was the Stalinists taking over the Russian Revolution, but the book was meant as a mere example of a more general principle.
The narrow interpretation of Orwell's allegory is usually used by the right to defend their own version of the Animal Farm society, by using the 'Godless Commies' as their Farmer Jones.
MartI would just like to say i for one am against this article being posted. We need to be more united, especially in this tense election season. Stories like this serve to divide, and not unite. Let us think of those who came before us, to unite us. Lincoln would say, a forum divided against itself cannot parse, Martin Luther King would ask that we judge not on the appearance of our grammar but the content of our thread. This article says we are wired to be in opposition to each other, and that is patently not true. We can come together and unite as a nation again if we agree to stay clear of that which would divide us. Even a dope brained, bleeding heart, wishy-washy, tree-hugging, godless, long haired hippified liberal pansy could understand that.

Paul, in the opening of his letter to the Roman Church (Romans, new testament) says this:

So, yes Paul did address homosexuality in these strong terms, and there is nothing wrong with someone expressing their opinion that they agree with him. Although, I do love the fact that he points out that lawsuits between Christians are also just as bad.
