1) Atheism is not a Religion. It has no tenants, and the lack of belief in something cannot be considered a "tenant". It's a state of belief. Now "Secular Humanism" is a set of beliefs exposed by many (though by no means all) Atheists, and it could be a called a "Godless Religion". Not all Atheists are Secular Humanists though, and Atheism cannot, by any reasonable definition of the word, be called a religion. It's vaguely insulting to the term "religion" to imply that it can be. (No, I am not an Atheist)
2) The reason the term "Christian Nation" is so widely mocked outside of "Christian Nation" circles is not merely because the far right seems to love using it so much, but because it is factually inaccurate. (And as a point of fact here, something on the order of eight or nine percent of the population is neither Christian nor Atheist, it may not be a humongous number, but it's hardly "nobody" either. On top of this many believing Christians mock the "Christian Nation" concept. Putting the entire blame on "Atheists" probably ignores the majority of the people who actually mock this concept.) The Constitution, in the one place that it makes mention religion at all, does so to declaim that there is no official religion of this country, and all people shall have to right to practice their own religion. Something on the order of 20-30% (depending on the polls) of the population claims either a lack of religious affiliation, or a specifically non-Christian affiliation. So while it may be accurate to say that the US is a majority Christian nation, that's not what is meant by those who proclaim it a "Christian Nation". Those people are therefore wrong.
3) People who are offended by others mocking the "Christian Nation" concept are either: (a) In the first group you describe above, and therefore among those being mocked, or (b) not comprehending what is being mocked. Mocking the concept espoused by puffed up, self appointed guardians of morality is not the same as mocking the values of the religion being used. Jesus himself mocked these people, see Mathew 6:5 for details.

The interest in zombies derives from the zombification effect that religiously applied eugenics has on the human genome. Religions have been doing eugenics on their adherents for 10,000 years, breeding them into willing slaves to the administration. After all this time, and especially now, with the support the godless religion of political correctness has for letting religions continue doing eugenics (they do it too), the human genome has been reduced to a length which indicates we are not viable enough to escape extinction. That's not a terrible idea. I see two obvious problem in a lot of places, especially when we're talking about places like TFA:
1. Any religion class that teaches anything about any faith other than the predominate one in the community in a remotely equal light will lead to even more screams from parents that "Obama is trying to turn my children into Muslims through our godless school system!" or the like, substitute "Obama" for major political figure they don't like at some level of government and "Muslims" for members of any given faith other than their own.
2. Any religion class that doesn't fall under (1) is dangerously close to the establishment clause.
You know maybe that's the tact reality based people ought to be taking.

Many Americans are confused and think the Bible is the basis of American law or that we are a Christian nation.
Why wouldn't they be confused, we have a political party that actively tries to tie the government with Christianity. We had a president for 8 recent years that called a war a crusade. We put 'in god we trust' on our money. We added 'under god' to the pledge of allegiance to show that we are a godly country as apposed to the godless Soviets. We are offended that someone would want to build a mosque near the 9/11 site. We try to make laws governing abortion. We try to make laws banning sex education and evolution from schools. We try to make laws inserting christian doctrine (Intelligent Design) into schools. We label sex and eroticism as porn and try to ban it from public and private life.
We have freedom of religion, not freedom from religion. And Christianity is the predominant religion.

Why are taxes in countries with socialized medicine and or education so much higher than elsewhere without any increased benefit seen via graduation rates?
Having met many US CS graduates the question should be 'Why do countries with socialized medicine and or education produce such a higher quality of graduate than those from one particular user pays country?'
Graduation rates mean absolutely nothing when some of the graduates that get through the US system appear to need remedial math.
A user pays system seems to generate a higher sense of entitlement amongst graduates(*sniff*why are those H1-B people stealing our jobs*sniff*?(Guess what sort of social system these people mostly learnt(OMG) their trade in?))?
The more bums on seats that get their diploma the more money the university makes and when the student is a profit centre nothing much else matters.
As for compassion, the state is a soulless thing that has no compassion. The state would sooner set you up in prison for not paying your taxes than give you a free handout. There is only one source of compassion and it seems to be anathema to most /.ers.
I haven't written off the possibility that God exists. I hope that if he does then the so-called 'rapture' happens soon as for me it will be rapture(the state of mind resulting from feelings of high emotion; joyous ecstasy). PLUS seeing all those written off SUVs would make me smile.
Socialized health care and education do not work. Get over it or go try and build your own socialist paradise.
I suspect that is an opinion based on someone's fear of those Godless communists. I also have no need to build a so called socialist paradise. AU has its problems but I didn't need indoctrination from birth to make me say that I wouldn't swap it for anywhere else on Earth. Get over it.
