      I nominate myself for best dressed. I am the only one on slashdot that wears a tie everyday and i add my own personal touches (Old Navy Performance Fleece for example).

      Sorry to break it to you, but you're not the only one on Slashdot that wears a tie every day. I wear a suit and tie every day, though on Fridays I give in to casual day and wear just a jacket and tie. And of course I never go out without a hat on.

      And I'd never be caught dead in anything from Old Navy.

    Not only does she dress well, but she has an awesome comic as well. After Y2K is the funniest comic I've seen. It is in color (and usually animated), and appears daily. Unfortunately there's no award for "Person that keeps hackers spirits up so they can continue coding."

    Best Dressed: John Carmack in "After Y2K." He looks SOOO pimp at the Geek Rehab clinic.

    Patent Bully: This is a tossup between Amazon.com for pushing around bn.com and the guys in charge of the LZW Algorythm for pushing whoever they can. Also, I'd like to nominate the DVD Control Association for using crypto to limit the number of DVD Hardware vendors. This is not a good application of Crypto.

    Domain Bully: To either AOL.com for trying to push around aolsucks.com, or to Etoys.com for their threats (and legal action) to etoy.com.

    FUD: Without question, I nominate Bob Metcalf, Credited with the creation of Ethernet, for his article about Linux's "Open Sores." How's that 30 year old technology treating ya, Bob?

    The Big Dumb Patent Bully HAS to be Amazon. I'll second that nomination.

    I'll nominate for Domain Name Bully WhatsHappenin.com for their silly lawsuit against QuePasa.com. The internet is NOT english only.

    The Cluestick award should go to 2600 Magazine. When will they take down the "Free Kevin" crap? Not only did Mitnick ask for a bunch of the delays in his case, HE PLEAD GUILTY. Biggest media punt of the year.(puts on asbestos underwear)

    I nominated for everything but Best Dressed... hmm... maybe Pam Anderson and Tommy Lee?

    Has to be the US Government, if they hadn't messed with NSI in the first place we wouldn't have to worry about it and deal with this lame shared WHOIS database where you have to enter specific servers just to get detail. What a waste of a good thing. Gaz

    Amen. Pick a first name, append a .com, .net, or .org, and do a whois. You get NSI. Pick almost any cool idea for a domain name, they are already there. For example: bigcheese.com, everything.com, ospf.com, opensource.com, etc etc etc. From their website: Network Solutions' ability to scale with the tremendous growth of the Internet is unparalleled: While it took four years to register the first one million domain names, it took 11 weeks to register the one million names leading up to the six million mark. http://www.netsol.com/nsi/index.html

    Maybe this is not the biggest fight, but the most stupid patent is the Y2K "windowing" patent by McDonnell Douglas. A nominee for the Big Dumb Patent Bully category. Has the patent already been cancelled, by the way? (see USPTO Takes Second Look)

    I belive that I am the only choice for best dressed; I won't repeat my reasons, but I will add that I will personally bake the aforementioned cookies myself. They shall be unlike any cookie you have tasted before, and oh you shall like the cookie.

    oh, that and the fact that none of you really know me, and it would be silly and fun :-)

    The ZD net interns.

    Allow me to be one of the many, many people to nominate the
    Ziff-Davis (ZD Group) in it's many forms.

    Their particular style of "rip and read" journalism, and complete
    lack of objectivity over the years, has earned them the respect
    and honor of only the most "clue starved" trolls all over the
    world. It is my belief that this perverse propagation of
    Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt (FUD) puts the ZD Group among the
    front runners in the race for a firm twack with the
    /. Cluestick.

    More to the point, I would like to nominate the hard work and
    dedication of the many ZDnet interns who (like so many sweatshop
    workers in a Nike factory) tirelessly toil to cut and paste
    microsoft press releases into Jerry Bursts' article of the day.

    ZDs' blatant pursuit of mediocrity makes them a prime
    candidate for The Cluestick Award for FUD in Journalism.
