    Hey, another fellow FFXI WHM.

I played on the PC version, using a PS2 gamepad wired through a USB converter, which made a much better companion to the keyboard than the mouse, for that game at least. It was designed with just the gamepad in mind.

Move with the left stick, camera with the right, and the D-pad was used to target. Left and right cycled through targets on screen, up and down cycled through your party (and your combat target - and there were macros to allow you to target what a party member was targeting as well - handy for combat casting while not "engaged" with an enemy).

I'm an admin on a DoD:S server, and if you're cheating on our servers, you get banned. Most other servers have similar views regarding cheating, and rather enjoy Valve's efforts at keeping cheaters off our servers.

Remember WON? Just because you have a CD doesn't mean you can't get banned from online service. You can keep playing single player, no prob, even just with Steam, too. Get banned from CS:S, DoD:S, or HL2:DM, and you can still play HL2 or Ep1.

I found a .torrent for a film put out by the ACLU called "Busted - The Citizens Guide to Surviving Police Encounters," and had he been stopped in the states, and had a good idea about what his rights were in incident involving his traffic stunt, we might have never caught him. Hell, I've been stopped by cops for speeding, and had things I definitely should not have on me, but never had to endure a search for something I "might" have.

That, and as a generality, American cops are a lot more stupid than British cops. But I don't have any hard evidence to back this up, never been hassled by a Bobby.

Quite the stereotype. While Baseball players are pretty fucking stupid (lowest College Graduate rates among American professional sports, usually make for terrible interviews, and much more childish lockerroom atmospheres), more pro sport leagues draw their players from a College Draft. And you still can't trip over your IQ and make it to a good school where you'll be visible enough for scouts to even have a hope to be taken in a draft.

Sure you got the people who just skate by with the minimum required, brain-power-wise(just like everywhere else in life), but most pro Basketball, Football, and Hockey players, as well as most Olympic-grade atheletes (I recall that being Bilingual is a requirement to be on the American Olympic Squad, regardless of your sport) come off as a ton more intelligent than most baseball players in an interview.

Ars just posted a great article that talked about the profits retailers will make off each unit - The Wii will get retailers about 5% profit per unit, while the non-core 360 setup is only around 3 or 4%.

Another think you gotta understand is that Nintendo only does gaming, unlike their competitors. We all know the scams M$ uses to make their cash and inflate their stock, they've been well discussed, and $ony (who will forever be tainted in my mind over the rootkit fiasco) is practically the GE of Japan (in that I mean they do anything and everything, not just appliances or electronics). Selling hardware for a loss is a strategy with a lot more risk for them, because they have fewer revinue streams to fall back upon. The result? A much more conservative approach to this hardware generation than their competitors.

It also means that they can cut their prices sooner, and more signifcantly.

Still think its a rip-off? Compare to the "HOW MUCH?!?" price of the PS3?

    Right. Whatever.

  13. Re:If Only.... on Details on the PS3 Online Service · · Score: 3, Interesting

Wii Virtual Console downloads will cost about 5-10$/game. They're not rumors, they're confirmed facts. NES, SNES, and select Genesis and TG16 games will be available. AFAIK, the Wii online services will be free - no annual registration, just a points system for purchasing Virtual Console titles and other offerings (something like 1 yen or 10 cents per point).

Its also worth noting that the Wii will not be sold for a loss - unlike M$ and $ony, the big N will be making profit from every console sold from day one. M$ and $ony can't make a profit until they can get their manufacturing costs way down (which is probably further off for $ony then I think even they realize). This will be the Achilles heel for $ony - their pricing scheme will put off a LOT more people than they're anticipating (just look at the current /. poll!). They plan on making their money back from games and peripherals, but if no one's buying systems, games and pads will sit on shelves, profiting no one. The other whammy here is they're not gonna have enough systems in stores before Christmas - every source out there is reporting that the numbers just aren't there yet.

Nintendo has everything going for them going into this generation. The didn't sell as many units as their competitors last generation, but they made more money than either of their competitors on hardware sales, because they've never sold their hardware for a loss. They're PWNING $ony in the handheld market - Are there any good games for the PSP yet? Cuz I already have a dozen DS games, and I love them all.

We produce the majority of the food you eat everyday. Take this example: Florida makes Oranges, but the oranges there are watery, overly-tart, and have terrible texture. That's why they go into juice. 99% of the Oranges you eat (table oranges) come from California (although Austrialia has some tasty naval varieties too), because they have superior flavor, and texture.

More Software companies call Silicon Valley home than anywhere else in the country, including Google.

I work in a restaurant that deals almost exclusivly with California wine, and most stuff I try is on par with anything you'd find from, say, France or Italy...

These cards tend to be for Game and and other 3D Developers, not gamers themselves. Developers need hardware that's about a year ahead of what consumers are currently using. These also tend to be a little more optimized for Windowed 3D apps (CAD/CAM apps, Maya, etc...) than say for Full-Screen apps (games). Consumers don't need that much punch, usually (until the game is released, that is).

I've been using an ATI AIW 9800 for some time. I don't know what you're talking about regarding OpenGL implementation. I'd been using NVIDIA boards up until my AIW (my last was a GF2MX, cheap but punchy, but I'd been using NVIDIA chips since the Riva128), and ATI's implementations are as bad as you might think, after reading your post.

If you wanna cite something, that might help your arguement....

Either way, this card isn't for you or me. But if you're making Maya movies or something, it might be up your alley.
