World Trade Towers and Pentagon Attacked
The World Trade Towers in new york were crashed into by 2 planes, one on each tower, 18 minutes apart. Nobody really knows who did it, but the planes were big ones. Normally I wouldn't consider posting this on Slashdot, but I'm making an exception this time because I can't get news through any of the conventional websites, and I assume I'm not alone. Update We're having server problems. Sorry. Updated info, both towers havecollapsed, pentagon hit by 3rd plane. Part of it has collapsed.

While the US continues to base its foreign policies on domestic politics: - ie, because of the influence of the Zionist lobby & US politicians being shitscared of Jewish voyers voting as a block on a single issue, the US continues to support Israel (with more aid in any given year than the whole continent of South America); even though Israel's welfare is not really a relivent to the US's strategic interest; you can't really blame foreign interests if they decide to take things out on the American people.
For example, using the example of Israel. While Israel refuses to permit the return of Palestinian refugees & refuses to return confiscated properties (before 1948 the Arabs owned about 90% of the land, after the mass expulsion & expropiations of 1948 they owned only 4%), Israel is in contravention of the Geneva Convention (A49P6), the Hague Convention (1906C), the IDHR & dozens of UN resolutions. Yet because of the US's UNSC veto, any resolutions against Israel get watered down to uselessness. So when Palestinians continue to live in poverty & see their children die everyday from US firearms; can you blame 'em for wanting to send a message back to the American people.
That's enough ranting.
But its pretty obvious that the arming of Israel would make the US a target.

Yes the Palestinians have suffered horribly and long, and yes Isreal and the US bear some responsibility. But Yasser Arafat has for the past thirty years been screwing his own people to feed his delusions of grandeur.
Any useful leader would long ago have turned away from terrorism, and toward realistic efforts for peace. Arafat has been the singular roadblock to this. EVERY President since Nixon has made overtures toward peace, and terrorism has got in the way every time. And I have no illusions that it was anyone but Arafat who at least condoned and at most ordered the attacks.
And now, the US will be justified, and will get permission from all neighboring Arab states (if they ask), to occupy the West Bank themselves. I hope Dubya decides to do so. An occupation that helps reestablish lawfulness and normalcy, a la post WWII occupations of Germany and Japan, is the best possible course at this point.

If this is indeed an attack from Palistine, I must say, I really cannot blame them.

Given that they seem to have had absolutely no clue at all, I would say they don't seem very necessary at all. In fact, they probably give us a false sense of security. Perhaps it's time for Americans to realize that the worlds largets military and largest spy organizations don't allow us to screw with the rest of the world with impunity.

Also, who are you going to bomb ? Non-state entities are very difficult to attack. It almost certainly wasn't Arafat.
Finally, do you realise what you're advocating is very similar to what whoever has done this has just done. You condemn attacks against US civilians and come very close to advocating attacks against foreign civilians.
Americans are shocked, surprised & confused, but I am not. Dont get me wrong, I _do_ think terrorism is very wrong, but I am saying I understand why this has happened.

The US supported the [dictator] Shar of Iran to enhance US business interests. The Shar was overthrown. The US helped the Bath Party junta take power in Iraq to support 'US interets'. The US supplied biological weapons to Iraq. Iraq gassed the Kerds with it. The US still continued to supply Iraq with biological weapons one year later.
The US supports Israel. A vicious country little different from apartheid South Africa.
The US supported the anti-Soviet forces in Afganistan with 6billion$ US of funds. The US dropped them like hot cakes when the USSR pulled out.
The US supports the brutal regime in Saudi Arabia.
The US helped overthrow the democratically elected government of Chile to enhance US business interests.
The US helped a brutal junta take power in Indonesia. The US supported it. The US trained its military, while it was dropping cluster bombs on villagers, and killing countless people in an occupied country.
The US supplied Indonesia of lists of opposition figures to have killed.
The US supported a military junta in Greece. The Greeks now hate America. That junta overthrew a neighbouring country's government; plunging that country into a crisus that it is still in.
The US supports Turkey, reguardless of its humanrights abuses.
The US did & still does teach its client state's juntas how to torture & subdue opposition figures.
The US once ordered that a country's president be killed because he would interfer with the US's business interests.
The US knew beforehand of a terrorist attack on my country, but did not warn us because they silently supported the action.
The US has supported countless dictators, given the go-ahead for client juntas to have US citizens killed, trained the militaries of juntas, taught how to torture & suppress & goodness knows what else I don't know of.
And the American government has the gaul to say that people who are anti the US simply don't like American values.
Maybe they don't.

I hate to put it this way, but thank God we have a Republican and a Texan in the White House. This was not an act of terrorism, this was an act of war. There needs to be some serious payment. I shudder to think what would happen if we had mamby-pamby Al Gore in the white house. Probably would call for "talks" with the terrorists to work out our differences.
I don't know about anyone else, but I'm pissed. Time to rally around W. It's time to for the full power of the United State of America to show what happens when you "awaken the sleeping giant".
