I'm not so sure a specific 'enemy' actually needs to be named or actually demonstrate that a known party classified as such actually had access to the data. I'd bet that all the prosecuting attorneys will have to do is demonstrate how the release of the information jeopardized lives. That he violated his oath isnt going to be hard to prove and he's very likely going to be toast.
Jokes about fart machine apps aside, are these devs really "losing" money everytime their apps are downloaded and not paid for? Or are they just not seeing the dollar they would otherwise have rec'd? Its the same bs we see with all piracy stories except for the fact that we're talking about a single publisher instead of a wider sw industry.
What I'd -really- like to know is what percentage of all phones and touches do jailbroken phones actually represent? Of those, how many are actually pirating apps? AND! Of those pirated apps, how many actually survive on ppl's devices for more then a day or three? I think those questions would make for a -much- more compelling App Store piracy story then this mental fart of a statistical analysis.
I haven't read anything that spoke towards manufacturers backing out b/c the licensing hike tho but I suppose economic theory implies some products getting squeezed out.
Is apple trying to squeeze out the market by marketing first-party schwag and jacking its fees?
I think a more compelling argument might be that they're just trying to squeeze every dime out of the ipod as corporately possible before the ipod loses its buzz. Between that and the fact that the silly boom box is yawn inducing (as opposed to being the killer accessory for the killer app) I'm not sold on apple's upcoming knick-knack dominance.
Is -how- he got caught I love a good forensics story. I'll bet all my karma that he u/l'ed those docs right from the law firm.:)
Seriously though, this may hurt anyone under the age of 25 trying to get a job outside the.gov that deals with sensitive info. Its unfortunate at least b/c no one that young will ever be given a chance to prove their worth at that law firm again.
You realize that this trial is taking place in Norway right? It doesnt seem like that much of a stretch (since IANAL) to assume that Norwegian precedent have 0 (zero) effect on the US legal system.
I still thnk you're right about Ascrofts intentions but this wont strengthen his positions at all.
You definatly raise a fair point. If I had to guess, which I'm about to do, I'd say that the commercial advance probably never took off as a selling point for a VCR so maybe it was a non-issue in the eyes of the PVR haters. I also remember hearing that it didn't work so well.
I suppose what it really comes down to is that these ppl probably believe in the tech and theories behind the PVR and are therefore fearfull of it. It doesnt make sense for them to demonize it if they didnt believe that once the tech matures (to the point where my mom can use it) it'll be a truly viable bizniss as opposed to only holding a place in every geek's heart like now.
I'm assuming that they sell now, but they're no where near hot-cake status, know what I mean?
I suppose it would make a pretty good piece of info to be used as blackmail. There -are- ways to prove that you broke into a system or network. I can see it now...
Pay me 1 million not release your new product specs to your competition. Or you could pay me 1.5 mill to not anonymously report the break in. For the low low price of 2 mill, you get to keep your trade secrets AND the fact that they were stolen. Act now! Crackers are standing by!
I just read this week's copy of Aviation Week, and it said somewhere that NASA's overall budget is like somewhere like 15 billion bucks. Who cares about 15k? It's spit in a bucket!
It's weird, I don't consider myself squeamish and I used to eat lunch while me and an old boss were checking out the latest additions to Rotten.com's gallery. But I swear to god everytime I see the footage of the planes hitting the towers I get this weird feeling in the pit of my stomach. I've never had that happen before where some image has an adverse reaction on me and I cant even begin to explain it.
And I said it last year and I'll say it again this year... I'm still really pissed off about those palistineans dancing in the streets with joy while downtown Manhattan was busy getting covered in 2 inches of soot.
I think South Park had your mindset right... the episode where they wander the neighborhood trying to find a place to watch TV so they can see the Terrance and Phillip trailer.
All that bs for a 1 minute trailer, 45 of which are buzzwords flying across the screen, 100ms of film footage. The resemblance to this as I watched the Hulk trailer durgin AoTC was striking, to say the least.
Honestly, thats why I just bought a mini disc player. The media is 75% smaller, with a little compression (just a lil) each MD can playback 160 minutes. I think full compression nets you 240 but it sounds like poop.
What I especially didnt like about this article was this part...
Damnit I was all set to paste and italicize the part where the person says something like, "...but I was there only for one month and didnt want to seem like a pain in the ass." but it's/.'ed
Anyway what really irks me is that this I get the impression that this guy doesnt take his job seriously. Being a NetAdmin is not a job, it's a duty. You have a duty to your Network and it's users first. Your PHB's second. I think anyone who treats their role as any different is inviting disaster.
I mean seriously, I'm lazy; does that mean I want to have more to do later on b/c someone who cant appreciate the gravity of their decisions told me to do something against my better judgement.
If I were him I would have kicked and screamed about that OOB installation on a public server but if thats how they want it done, then thats how I'll do it. If that becomes a pattern in their decisions, then I'll decided to start surfing monster.com. What I'm getting at tho is that it's not hard to make someone understand that best practices are called as such for a reason and straying away from them should only be done with very high degree of deliberateness, instead of the implied laziness on the part of the PHB and the cowardice of the person interviewed in the article. The whole point of the article could have been avoided with a pair of cojones.
Just when I thought that I knew the difference between a Service Pack, Security Rollup Patch and a cumulative Hot Fix they go and release a Security Bulletin like this one.

The takedown @ Mashable is spot on!

Anyone remember when Apple jacked their licensing fees for port access late last year and pissed off manufacturers? Just in case you dont: http://www.macnn.com/articles/05/10/11/made.for.ip od.licensing/

Is there anyone around that can speak towards what that other huge-fucking-democracy called India is doing to keep their citizens safe?
I'm not asking for 10 pages of current affairs but I'm sure a lot of the same threats are on their minds. So what are they thinking?

Functionality? If it has a place for a mouse/kb/power/video and an on/off button how much functional do you need it to be?

Good thing the US mint started printing those 10 million dollar bills. I'd hate to have pay for it in 10's and 20's.

If the two reasons you cited are the only things keeping you from getting one then you haven't researched your options enough.
You can get either a Tivo or a Replay-Thingy w/o a recursive cost and w/o a lifetime subscription.

I noticed that .25 refresh... how does quake look on it?
does text hold together as you scroll by it?
This is one of those articles that takes present strategy (as viewed from the outside looking in) and runs it into the future.
The whole article assumes that MS will never fab it's own chips into an Xbox... that might not be entirely true.

Now how the fuck am I gonna get tickets?
Is it so wrong for a Blizzard forum to try to conceal the fact that you can pirate a Blizzard game and still play in a Bnet env?
I hope you never have to release closed source code and have to worry about someone reverse engineering some of the profitibility out of it.

Why didnt you talk to us before you sued? Either way we'll keep doing what we're doing till someone in the court tells us to stop.

He's got some really great space scenes that he did by himself but more importantly (to you) is that he even has some renders in 16x9.
I heard they are going to have to keep it in geo-sync orbit with Canada so they can finally begin studying Celine Dion's giant camel toe.
