  1. Re:Sorry Netbook wins still on iPad Will Beat Netbooks With "Magic" · · Score: 1

I completely agree with the parent.

I am going to take a liberty here and assume something, while trying to be honest and not a troll: if you're reading this website, the iPad is probably not targeted toward you.

A reoccurring narrative within the content presented on slashdot are progressive ideas, suggestions, fixes, hardhacks that can allow for a greater level of user customization and control. By its very nature (and a key marketing point to many Apple products) the iPad is the opposite of this. The iPad does not allow for advanced customization or unintended user control (non-removable battery, no CD/DVD drive, limited RAM/HD space, etc).

Instead, you need to think of the iPad as an appliance, like a refrigerator or vacuum. These devices are A) often found throughout the house B) do one thing at a time. The iPad is the software/hardware equivalent of this as shown by its lowered price (for Apple standards), simplified interface, and inability to multitask program and its sole purpose is to do one thing at a time.

If you can't get by now who the target market is for this product, you're not the target demographic as the parent stated.

  3. Dred Scott v. Sandford says otherwise. on Apple Sued For Turning Workers Into Slaves · · Score: 1

As we've all read Dred Scott v. Sanford on our friday nights, instead of hitting the clubs, slaves in the United States are not considered citizens. If they are not citizens, they are not allowed the right to sue in court. The Apple employees must be citizens if they're allowed to sue in court.

  4. A good read. on A Gamer's Manifesto · · Score: 1

That manifesto is surely filled with angst. Although I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't be with the state of game consoles. I liked the point about the dehumanization of women.

  5. Motivation? on Inside the Shadow Internet · · Score: 1

So, if there are individuals in the movie and music industry, their motivation really must derive from the process of warez or they get an ego boost. I mean, imagine you're some PA for a new movie coming out and you start seeding the movie to some "elite warez group" a month before release. If you weren't seeding the movie for any of the aforementioned reasons, what could you possibly be thinking: "Oh, I just seeded a movie I spent hundresd of hours editing so people don't have to.. give...me..payment..for it." There's no nostalgia in warez.

Heh, yes, I was just going to mention that. Maybe they've progressed since the initial story was mentioned on GIS.

  7. Where's the any key? on Whose Desktop Would You Most Like To See? · · Score: 1

I'd forgotten about George Bush's pet project; breaking as many sections of the Geneva convention as possible. :P

  8. Leave 'em lost. on Lost Doctor Who Episode Found · · Score: 1

Most episodes from the first and second incarnations of Dr. Who were rarely good. While some of the episodes provided the crucial background history for monsters, foes, and friends, others just plain sucked. The Aztecs, The Web Planet, The Dominators, The Mind Robber, and Planet of Giants come to mind as total crap.

  9. Ogg Vorbis a loser? on MP3 Winners and Losers for 2003 · · Score: 2, Informative

As I recall, someone developed a plugin for Ogg Vorbis support in iTunes. Seemingly, the introduction of AAC should of done nothing to detour the popularity of .ogg. Of course WMA is a different story.

"Get a Mazda Tribute and recieve a free Dell DJ." That sounds reasonable.

  13. I don't want to hear it. on MUD Co-Creator Bartle On Voice Chat in MMOGs · · Score: 1

Using voice chat would definitely take the fun out of MUDing. I mean, just imagine, having a full in-depth conversation with someone on how to get a certain level 60 weapon or shield, and there would be no way for a Immortal(s) of that MUD to moderate what has been said. Oh yeah, and trying to understand various accents would suck.

  16. Already switched. on What's Your Timeline for IPv6 Migration? · · Score: 5, Insightful

I've already switched, but isn't it more important whether all the really huge backbone servers switch? I mean, the majority of them are using IPv4, so are they willing to shut down for a few moments to upgrade (assuming it takes that long)? If they switch, could that entail major loses in their companies income?

  17. Forget it. on Douglas Adams' Doctor Who · · Score: 2, Insightful

I have the Shada VHS, it wasn't worth the effort for the BBC to scrape the pieces of video they did have and compile them together. I just viewed the Flash version, and it still wasn't worth the effort to animate the fragments of video footage for Shada.

There are other Dr. Who's (I was thinking of some of William Hartnell's episodes) that are in worse condition, that could use such a gift, I think the only reason this one was done in Flash was due to the fact the name "Douglas Adams" was sprinkled around.

  20. Save your money. on The Two Towers DVD Release Dates · · Score: 3, Insightful

I really don't see much point in buying the LotR DVD's seperately. You just know that New Line will compile together all three movie's in one big massive package with an infinite amount of DVD extra's.

So, will there be any cheat codes for this? :P

  24. This is a new development? on Jobs Earns More Than A Buck A Year · · Score: 0, Redundant

I knew that Jobs had plenty of Stock Options and a Jet purchased for him age's ago. On almost every magazine article about the man, they mention his salary and will allude to the "other" forms of payment given to him.

  25. Opposites attact. on HomePod Brings Music from iTunes to the Living Room · · Score: 2, Insightful
