Bradley Trainer Support in MAME 0.62

TheAlchemist writes "The Bradley Trainer was a modification to Atari's Battlezone arcade game created for the US Army to help train personel in the use of the Bradley Fighting Vehicle. Supposedly only two of these machines were built, and of the two only one of them is known to exist today. The latest version of the arcade enumator MAME (0.62) has support for the Bradley Trainer, which hasn't been emulated until now. Pictures and more information of the Atari Bradley Trainer be found on this site, and screenshots of it running in MAME can be found here."

Sure they do. But when those deaths are largely brought about by the unlawful aggression of their own government, that government bears primary responsibility. For example, if your government is in the habit of placing chemical weapon delivery systems in the middle of residential housing, it is your government that bears primary responsbility when I obliterate a housing development with napalm to prevent those weapons from being launched against innocent civilians.

And your government still bears primary responsibility if I obliterate the housing block two blocks over because I punch the wrong coordinates in the system. Because they still haven't made a good-faith effort to insulate their civilians from the war.

      Does this apply here? Absolutely.

      > Like an Aegis cruiser shooting down a foreign airliner while said cruiser is unlawfully in the territorial waters of the airliners originating nation?

Unlawfully? Highly debatable. The Vincennes was in hot pursuit of several Iranian gunboats which had fired upon civilian shipping and the Vincennes' own aircraft, as part of a continuing pattern of sinking civilian shipping *outside* of Iranian territorial waters. You don't get to run back into your waters after that and claim that the other side doesn't get to follow...

As for the rest: in the midst of a sea battle, the airbus launches from a mixed civilian/military airport, ignores several challenges on a frequency all aircraft in the area had to monitor, and heads directly for the battle and the ship.

In the four minutes you have to make the decision, you receive false information from your people and believe an Iranian F-14 is bearing down on you. You make a decision and shoot it down, only to discover that you've destroyed an Airbus full of innocent people.

That's horrible, and deserves a review to determine whether your were negligent and whether a court martial should be convenened. And that happened. And the review concluded that the captain had erred honestly and understandibly.

War sucks. Battle sucks. People die. Some of them are completely innocent.

But don't harbor illusions that the Iranians did everything they could to protect their people. No warning was given to the Airbus regarding the situation. No rerouting was done to keep aircraft away from the area the battle was developing in. The Iranian gunboats chose to use hit and run tactics *designed* to bring the U.S. into their waters.

The Vincennes incident was a horrible one, and is still used as a case study of what not to do. But mistakes like that happen all too often.

And if you think a more "responsible" response from the U.S. would have had any effect on Iranian agression or terrorism, you are extremely naive. If anything the lack of sympathy Iran got from the world after the attack finally convinced them that they'd made themselves a pariah, and arguably influenced them to sue for peace with Iraq and reconsider certain attitudes.

Aegis is *not* something that any _single_ airborne enemy could hope to harm.

And the captain took absolutely no consequences for his actions. So far as I am aware, and you have your finger on the facts it seems so correct me if I'm wrong please, the captain wasn't even admonished or disciplined in any way whatsoever.
He commited an action in violation of several international laws and nothing happens.

You must not be familiar with the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery. It's a test that is administered to recruits. It pre-qualifies them for certain fields.
This friend of mine (a fellow who graduated from high school when he was 21) did not score well on his ASVAB and wound up assigned to a Bradley in Korea. He is a tool. Since leaving the service he has taken a few community college classes and worked his way up to Assistant Manager at Blockbuster.

The only leeway I'd allow you is as follows...

      1) There are still cases of "errant bombs"

      2) While the US bombing is very precise most of the time, the intelligence that is there in the field is nowhere near as good. There is a great many strongman only to willing to use the US to smite his foes.
