I'm sorry if I'm lucky enough to work at a R&D establishment where we occassionaly have time to get creative. I also wish you were so well employed. If it's any consolation to you I suffer from clinical depression, so yes, my life sucks too - BIG TIME. Life's a bitch 'n all that...
'"Oh! Your too disabled to work here!" and other B.S. disguised by: "we found someone more qualified".'
If it's just excuses they're giving you then get more qualified. For what it's worth I have no formal qualifications whatsoever, unless you count my BSC (Bronze Swimming Certificate).
A couple of years ago I developed a 4DOF robot for the pharmaceutical industry for testing blister packs for child resistance & QA purposes. With four variable speed steppers, a few Friday afternoons worth of coding had it playing four part harmonies. A couple of solenoids and some pneumatics provided basic percussion. It was quite possibly the neatest useless thing I've ever done.
It happens. I was recently involved in a project where commercial kitchen equipment monitors itself and reports performance and any potential problems via wifi to a central PC which will automatically inform the manufacturers of performance, maintenance issues and call out an engineer or manager if required via email, SMS etc. An big freezer full of food that dies in the middle of the night could be very expensive, one that rings you up so you can get it fixed as soon as possible can save a fortune.
As an example, I once had a phone call from the police (uk) informing me that someone (an ex) had made a (false) complaint of harrasment against me. They explained that if another complaint were to be made they *would* arrest me, even with no evidence! It turned out that she was the one who ultimately got arrested though, but not for making a false claim...

OK, I'm aware that people other than sony manufacture memory sticks.
Over the last few years there have been several sony products I'd loved to have purchased, sony make some very desirable kit after all. I have other devices, all of which have CF / SD slots, hence I already have CF / SD cards a plenty. Sony didn't get my money in the end simply because I wasn't prepared to spend *more* money on memory sticks (manufactured by whoever) when other similar products are available from other manufacturers that use media I already posess.
Again, if you can get a (relatively weak, certainly unfocused) cell signal from *inside* a plane then you'd certainly be able to detect something tightly focused with some major wattage behind it aimed right at said plane...
OK, lots of people are stating that planes are effectively a faraday cage. If this is so, how come you can get a signal from an *external* cell whilst *inside* a plane in flight (or on the tarmac for that matter) ?!? This does not satisfy my criteria for a faraday cage folks...

'but Sony knows how risky it is to play "exclusive" in the market and make things incomatible from rest of the world'
Err, one word, Memory Stick, well, two words then.
'My laptop is my birth control method'
Hmmm, no. You post on slashdot, your personality is your birth control method.
Blue sky ?!?
This is the UK we're talking about here...
WHEN are these media people going to finally realise that if you can see it or hear it you can snag it ?
... to back up critical files at the end of the month.
No Shit Sherlock - is this for geeks, or those needing an introduction to the cluestick (tm) ?!?

...those 2d laptops, put the bloody things down, you can't find 'em again. That extra dimensions gonna make all the difference.
'...granted it wasn't room-filling light, but it provided some nice ambient light in the otherwise pure darkness.'
How did you find the LED's ?!?
Inspired rant Sir!
That's a privately owned village. It's on a steep hill on the coast, they have land rovers to take people up and down.
Very interesting read.
