Halo - Warthog Cloned, Red Vs Blue DVD-ed

Thanks to Eurogamer for their news item highlighting the similarities between Peugeot's new Hoggar concept car and Halo's Warthog buggy. The article's tongue-in-cheek disclaimer argues: "We feel sure that any similarity is entirely coincidental", and the likeness was originally brought to light by Halo machinima crew Red Vs. Blue, who have also just released the Season 1 DVD for their much-lauded machinima series, including "all episodes, PSAs, extra videos, outtakes, easter eggs and a directors commentary" - the basic episodes are also still freely downloadable in DivX/Quicktime formats for interested parties.

From the article on the Warthog: actually reminds this writer of the buggy from the start of Star Trek: Nemesis (which was even more clearly a Warthog rip-off!)

Star Trek Nemesis probably had those buggies built long before anyone on the team had played Halo. Nemesis released at the end of 2002, Halo released at the end of 2001. I would bet that Star Trek was filming before Halo was released.

These days a game can be in production for as long as a movie. Do I hear cries of "Duke Nukem Forever"? Halo, if I remember, had quite a long production period.

And as we know, Star Trek has ripped off alot of ideas from technology. Look at sliding doors - we have them and Star Trek stole them! We have scientists working on teleportation - and Star Trek put that in their movies and series!

      Rip-off merchants, I tells ya!!!

Halo had a buggy that resembled the final version (and the Nemesis version) in 1999, and had been in development for a year or two.

Military forces around the world have long had vehicles similar to the Warthog. There's the Desert Patrol Vehicle, the Ranger Special Operations Vehicle, and plenty others. The idea is hardly a new one.

That car kinda reminds me a little of the Porsche Cayanne for some reason. You know, minus the enclosed back and all. I think it's just the hood/front end design.

It's missing the two tow hooks though... "you see those two tow hooks there... they look like tusks!"

Oh, and I can't wait for my RvB DVD to finally freakin send! Those guys rock.
