Downloadable Origami Motorcycles
gse writes "This is too cool. Yamaha has a series of very realistic origami motorcycles, freely downloadable from their website. There's also a cool little article on how the models are made. I knew the office dyesub would come in handy someday!"
I'm a black belt in origami.
Be you Admins? nay, we are but lusers!
"origami" means something like "folded paper". The Yamaha models are made by cutting and pasting paper, not folding. So they're not origami.
They're cool nonetheless...

I can only start to imagine the amount of paper cuts recieved in creating one of those bikes.

This is only cool because I'll never own a real V-Max. *sniff* My mate convinced my other half there really dangerous (in the cool way), and now she thinks I'll kill myself. So I have to stick to the CBR....

First we have a IE patch, that's not really a patch.
Then we have a Linux-compatible music store, that doesn't actually work with Linux.
Now we get oragami that's not even oragami!
Have a look at 'Paper Models International'. I've been buying models from them occasionally for over ten years, and they've got some amazing things in the catalog.
Check out the JS Schrieber models of the Chartre Cathedral, and the first German locomotive, "Der Adler". The detail is fantastic.

An uninformed reader will think it's weird that a computer peripheral (speaker) company also makes vehicles.
More-informed slashdot readers will know better--they are still trying to get over that Hundai is allowed to make cars.

Origami motorcycles = good
Origami webservers = bad
When will they learn....
At the time I remember quite a few list members downloaded and tried them but quite a few very shaky paper R1s went to the breakers because these kits are not paper modelling for the beginner or the faint hearted.
Still, topmarks to Yamaha for doing such a cool thing!

I've always been fascinated by origami and paper models. Perhaps that's because I am so very bad at both. Anyway, here's some more paper goodness.
Damn! And here I thought I had to upgrade my printer for a 'folding' one... Download, print, fold. Instead I gotta do it all myself?
Good if you REALLY wanna piss off a family member this christmas (i.e brother) after he/she is finished putting the thing together take to it with a zippo lighter and see it disintegrate rather quickly >:)
aaahh christmas brings out the best in me.
And while you are it, there is an Enterprise model made out of a 3.5" floppy. It's actually fairly easy to do and it's waaaay geeky :)

In origami you cannot use glue and scissors. If you are looking for origamis try Joseph Wu's Origami Page or Origami.com, in those sites you can have a peak in the wonderful world of folding. But those are really nice Paper Craft Models.
not oragami.
ori means to fold, and gami is the sounded variant of kami which means paper.
oragami could be some surname or something, but heck, i dunno.

The idea of paper/card models is not really that new. There is a great selection of card models available for purchase or download. The Yamaha models mentioned in this article are very simple compare to professionally designed and printed models. Virtually anything you ask for is out there. Poland is the leader in this hobby. To get an idea of what I'm talking about take a look at some of these links:

More sophisticated models have thousands of parts and are very realistic. A model of USS Saratoga from publisher Fly Model in scale 1:200 has over 3200 parts (that includes couple squadrones of airplanes). Card models are also mostly in large scales (1:33 airplanes, 1:25 vehicles and 1:200 ships) and a whole lot cheaper than plastic models.
