Lab creates brain made from rat cells

KingNothing writes "A University of Florida scientist has created a living "brain" of cultured rat cells that now controls an F-22 fighter jet flight simulator.     Is that I even emailed a link to the supposedly on-duty editor, and SAID that this was a dupe. It's okay if nobody's let them know what's going on, but I know that at LEAST one email was sent telling them not to post this story.

Maybe they can get some of these rats to fill in the air traffic control job openings in the United States. Then after that, maybe we could use some of them in government agencies like the FAA... oh wait, we already have that.

    it's strange how a few people that actually put some posts here saying that this is a dupe and even made links to original slashdot discussion are being modded into zeros as redundant.

    I think the article is redundant, not the posters who point you to a correct place to read the discussion. They are just being informative - if not for them, you would miss an actual discussion.

      A.) Multiple whinings about it are redundant. Big ol karma grab here if theyr'e modded up.

      B.) Posting that it's redundant does more harm than good. Want dupes to go away? Don't comment in that thread. More comments == more ad hits for Slashdot.

      C.) It's not like Slashdot is killing puppies when they dupe a story.

      If you don't want stories duped, best thing to do is just to ignore the thread.

    Don't these people ever watch Science Fiction films?

    You don't put something like that in control of weapons.

    A stealthy F22 controlled by an artificially grown brain falling into the hands of some shady characters sounds like the central theme in a Steven Seagal movie.

    In all seriousness. Something like this has no idea that it's wrong to fire on unarmed civillians. A human pilot does. A human pilot knows that if he drops a bomb on unarmed civillians, there is a chance that he'll be spending time on the wrong side of a cell.

    A human pilot will hesitate, a human pilot may refuse. An artificial pilot has no moral or ethical problems with executing any order.

    I like the idea of growing synthetic brains, it's a bad idea to give them weapons.
