Joss Whedon to Write/Direct Wonder Woman
bigbear writes "'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' and 'Firefly' creator Joss Whedon has signed on to write and direct the big screen adaptation of the DC Comics character Wonder Woman. The film is being produced by Joel Sliver ('The Matrix'). No word yet on who will play the "iconic female heroine of our time.""
What's Hollywood going to do when they've finished making a movie for each super hero?
That is all.

I just hope its not Halle Berry...

I come here for science and technology news, and always chuckle when I see an article about some Star Trek/comic book/etc. development that I know nothing about.
Am I not a real "nerd" or something?
(Sorry for flambait, but I can't help it. Seeing so many of these recently, i.e. "Star Wars Episode III Commercial on The OC!" et al).
Joss has a real talent for writing amazing scripts and making characters memorable. Buffy was amazing, so was Angel, and the little bit I have seen of Firefly, I liked. Characters like Willow, Spike, Darla, Drusilla will live on forever, great writing is key, and Joss is a master. I have faith in Joss to make this a good movie, safe to say, way better than Catwoman
I love(d) Buffy and Angel... but somehow firefly didn't have the same magic. ...many people will probably disagree with me anyway
I disagree. :) I find both Angel and Buffy to be too cheesy, to the point of being painful to watch. I know a number of people who like both, but if either starts playing, I change the channel or leave the room. I thought Firefly, on the other hand, was very well done. The dialogue was much, much better and I thought the cast was quite talented. I guess it is all just a matter of preference.
Political Correctness... like the mentality that drives sales of Maxim, Playboy, and Dead or Alive: Extreme Beach Volleyball. I don't think we need to worry about her losing the skimpy suit, since the only people complaining about "decency in entertainment" are the conservatives who complain about politcal correctness.
On the good side, though, it's not being directed by Uwe Boll. So, uh... thumbs up on that one.

I'd rather be flamed than ignored.

was the "iconic female heroine of our time." Wonder Woman was your grandparents' Buffy.

Wonder Woman SUCKS!
Her weird beautiful but feminist odd semi deity origin might have worked in the '40s or '50s, but come on she's has just way too much muddled baggage in the way of what 13 years boys think women are or should be.
There are other much more interesting Female Superheroes to do movies about. Good origin stories etc... They're only doing Wonder Women because she's been around so long guys in their 60 and 70s might give the movie a look. I haven't read any Wonder Woman stories in over 30 years (and they sucked then), but if she has been reinvented in any reasonable manner (and I suspect not, having seen the animated Justice League) it will not sit well with the older fans looking to indulge in nostalgia.

Angelina Jolie...rrrrowwwr! Or Catherine Zeta Jones if Angelina turns it down.

Charlize Theron, but she's already playing Aeon Flux.

Hot...so hot.
I realize that you're joking, but lets talk about this for a moment.
Movies have changed. And not always for the better. Remember the horror/slasher and sex-comedy movies of the 80s?
You had boobies and bush EVERYWHERE! Porky's? Yes! Porky's 2? Yes. The various Friday the 13ths? Yes! The Nightmare on Elm Street series? Yes! The police academy series? Yes!
We had a gratuitous boobie genre. Stewardess School. Up The Creek. Hardbodies. Valley Girl. The Last American Virgin. Bachelor Party. The list goes on and on.
Where have our boobies gone? The best boobie scene in a recent hollywood movie was the topless sunbathing in Swordfish.
I couldn't tell you the last time I saw bush in a hollywood movie. And it's damned unfair!

She'd be great. She's gorgeous, fit, but probably "too cool" for such a role.
I dunno. I think the "from the TV show" cameo is wearing thin. Lou Ferrigno in The Hulk, Stan Lee in everything (although he was smarter than I and avoided The Punisher). Then you have the TV shows (Starsky and Hutch) doing the same thing.
I'm now just looking for a smart update of the material without any hipster/Gen X *wink wink/nudge nudge* masquerading as content.

Judging from past experience, Whedon will want to cast a relative unknown in the part, which will allow him to impose his own vision on the character. Except that the studios will definitely insist on a Big Name, for all the usual reasons. And they probably won't want the same kind of actor that Whedon will want. Which sets the stage for some nasty conflicts. Which, come to think of it, is exactly what has happened with every project Whedon has been involved with -- with the possible exception of the TV version of Buffy. Truth is, if I were a movie studio, I'd be very wary of the dude.
Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy and admire a lot of Whedon's work. But he's never seemed to be able to deal with making TV or movies as a truly collaborative process. At least, that's my explanation for why he's no longer friendly with a lot of the people he helped to success. And why Buffy became unwatchable as soon as Whedon started delegating its production.
To be precise, she just made us uninterested in sex for a little while. But we've recovered.

That must explain why the person at the Federal Censorship Commission who is the most active on the "decency in entertainment" front is a Democrat. I don't expect facts to get in the way of your rant about conservatives, so please, rant away.
gee, maybe your argument just says that the democratic party is conservative. Coke vs. Pepsi...the republicans and the democrats are just two branches of the corporate party. their policies benefit the rich.
