Kevin Bachus Quits Infinium

In yet another piece of news confirming that Infinium is snake-oil in console form, Kevin Bachus has left his position as CEO of the company. Next Generation reports: "The company continues to promise the launch of the aptly named Phantom e-distribution console in 2006. To be honest though, the company has been promising its launch every year since the launch of the Xbox when they first started talking about the unit and rightfully about the promise of e-distribution."

      I actually did buy a very, very, very small amount on pot odds for two reasons:

      1) Whatever technology they were developing could be picked up by a major service provider who wanted to get into the game market. So I was thinking someone might just buy them out. I think that's the only hope the thiefs behind the company had.

      2) To just develop/sell/liscence their keyboard/mouse combo. It looked really good and they apparently own the IP on it.

      Indeed. Quite the harsh one, owner of a UID not that far removed from mine.

      The original poster was ambiguous with regards to ownership of shares in the Infinium or whatever they are called, and I was amused by the possibilty that someone had actually bought shares in this decidedly dodgy venture.... and if you read further on, the original poster actually responds with "I actually did buy a very, very, very small amount"

      Still, I wonder why I was marked harshly down overated and you somehow escaped attention for your trolling efforts.

    You know, when Microsoft beats you to market with something, you're really slow!

    (The Xbox 360 has "e-distribution" in the form of Xbox Live Arcade, where you can download games to the hard drive over Live).

    The Phantom was a good idea created by a bad company that had 0.05% chance of bringing it to market and even if they did only a 0.05% chance of it being successful; let's face it Nintendo is considered a small company in the console industry today and they are worth more than $20 Billion and have revinues measured in the Billions of dollars. Investing in this company is like playing the lottery, you know you're going to loose but people do it anyways because of the potential rewards if they win.

    Is it just me, or has the console's image changed again? I mean...seriously...part of what's so entertaining about the whole damn saga is how often and how radically the "photographs" of the console change!

    That it really is a sham?!? No way! All those ivestment bankers couldn't be wrong, and the hardware was so revolutionary, and the games... they were going to be so, so, well... there may not even be any games, but if there were any I'm sure they would have been perfectly bland and retreads of crappy PC shareware/flash games.

    Damn. My hopes were so high for so long. Guess I'll have to settle for the next best hype-box 360... it will be sooo much better. I mean MS says so, and like on MTV too...

    It was a demo unit at E3 2004, so they did get as far as having a few prototype consoles.

    I would guess that they have just failed to get enough investors to actually launch. The idea is, oddly enough, becoming increasingly valid. But they have absolutely no credibility with anyone at this point, as near as I can tell. How is it tht anyone can still be willing to be associated with the Phantom console at this point?

      I too was at E3 and checked it out and had a laugh or two. I thought it was one of the silliest ideas to begin with, and I held an interview with two of the gentlemen there for the Phantom and I ended up with such useless information that I couldn't even use it. They spoke in such generalities that they really said nothing, which is exactly what it will turn out to be.

      The funny thing is that even as long as I've been in this business, there was a point were I truly believed that this product was going to come out. They snookered a lot of very informed folks to differing degrees... but that alone is quite an achievment.
