Of course, most of the time, the commercial sites that actually have income from banner ads easily withstand the Slashdot Effect. So perhaps we could draw the line at sites that don't have ads. They are, after all, much more likely to buckle under the pressure of all those unexpected hits. But what happens if I cache the site, and they update themselves? Once again, I'm transmitting data that I shouldn't be, only this time my cache is out of date!

I could try asking permission, but do you want to wait 6 hours for a cool breaking story while we wait for permission to link someone?

So the quick answer is: "Sure, caching would be neat." It would make things a lot easier when servers go down, but it's a complicated issue that would need to be thought through in great detail before being implemented.

I guess I must be new here.

It's kind of hard to have insightful commentary when the site is slashdotted. No one (well maybe the first 3 people had a chance to look at it) has been able to witness the game's dynmanics. No one has any insight, because no one's played it.

You don't have anything meaningful to say, so just complain. I guess you aren't new here.

I've played it, for about 2 turns. It's rubbish. Very Risk-like, which is OK and all but I had a considerably better game than this back when I was using windows 3.1.

As for ethical aspects, yes, it's fine. Considering that you can't buy a product that's not made in a sweatshop and that most people have to drive to work emitting choking clouds of toxic smoke to afford to eat, playing or making a not-100%-politically-correct conquest-themed abstract game is absolutely lost in the ethical noise.

What moral aspect of the game. People have been playing Risk forever. This is just using google maps.

It's people like you that scare the living crap out of me. Do you actually believe playing a strategy game like this promotes violence? Because it is on "real-life maps" are we actally training people to conduct war? Do you cry when someone takes your knight in chess because it is animal abuse? If you really are concerned about the moral aspects of this game, then you are flat out nuts. I can understand at least a little bit why people look at GTA and think that it is over the top (though I still think it should have every right to exist and be sold). But when you get to something as abstract as a straegy game that uses a real map..come on! Even if the site wasn't slashdotted you wouldn't see people talking about morals because this game has nothing to do with morals. It's a GAME. Please check in with reality.
