Video of Fedora On PS3
klippoth writes, "I just thought I would let you guys know, not only do I have Fedora Core 5 for PPC installed on my Playstation 3, but I video-captured running through the boot loader to demonstrate how it works. And yes, I am selling the PS3 on Ebay, although that was not my original intention. But hearing about people making ten grand... well, let's just say my love for my PS3 is NOT unconditional. Metal Gear Solid 4 doesn't come out for another year anyway! (Although it seems that sales of PS3s are starting to slow down... oh well, I can think of worse things to be stuck with!!)"
Is this an article about how functional Linux on PS3 is? Or is it intended to spark discussion about PS3 sales on eBay?
The ______ Agenda
Oh man, way to get advertising for your nerdy eBay sale on the busiest nerd blog in the universe, for free. I don't blame you for trying, but nonetheless, a part of me has died inside.
Oops, I may already be a troll.
Even as you read this, your pants are strangling your loins! Aaa!
So what works under fedora? Ethernet? Wifi cards (usb ones at least)? How about more than 640x480 resolution? Output to an actual monitor? Video and sound? It would be nice to have some basic questions answered.
A pretty fucking good idea since it runs the Cell.
"The resale demand just isn't there to support the 90% of people who bought PS3s just to flood ebay with them."
Bzzttt!
You fail at damage control clown. There were 400k PS3s in the initial PS3 shipment, the total number on eBay is a tiny fraction of that amount.
Prices are falling because air shipments of new PS3s are already arriving in the US. Target just got another batch in the past day or so. And other retailers are going to be receiving some 600k new units over the next five weeks.
Give the "lol ebay" crap as rest, it just make people look desperate to downplay the massive demand for the console.
How was this "Slashvertisement". I watched the video. I heard nothing in regards to how the PS3 is this or that, etc. It was nothing more than Linux running on a game system. I thought it was rather nifty.
Now only if he could get network connectivity to work....
Life is not for the lazy.
How about posting about the Wii launch? :)
Minti: What's that huge shuriken in your back?! Kin: It's the instrument of my victory.
I've been testing PS3 at SCEA for quite a few months now, and I'm not sure about the retail units (we have a special testing units), but there is a means right from the PS3 menu to setup multiple operating systems, with a partitioning tool included in it.
So I have to say I'm as impressed with this story as I was when I received a link from someone detailing the success of someone who thought he was newsworthy by replacing the stock hard drive, as if it wasn't designed to be replaceable.
Depends on what your definition of supercomputer is.
Who would win this election: Andrew Weiner vs Andrew Weiner's weiner.
exactly the point.
go to ebay, pick one up for a hundred dollar premium right now.
wait a few more, the market is flooded.
the problem was that people were not buying the ps3 for themselves, they were buying it to resell. the market has corrected.
check the prices...all of the prices.
they are quite reasonable (compared to the retail price of the ps3)
The phrase "more better" is acceptable English. suck it grammar Nazis
Actually, enron took many months to fall. I don't mean to sound like an ass, but a simple sell-on-stop order would have protected against catastrophic losses (same with Nortel). That doesn't excuse the management of these companies from the fraud they were involved in, but I'm pointing out that market prices for things like stocks don't spontaneously evaporate. Even though there are large 'gaps' in price sometimes, usually a catastrophic price change such as Nortel from $100 down to $1 takes months, even years to happen
Thanks for being very hurtful. I didn't post any links to my auction. I knew already that any mention of that would be buried. I was just showing "proof-of-concept", and I did not once claim to engineer this feat nor do I pretend to be a very experienced Gnome/Fedora user. This was not meant as advertising, and I had no clue that the editors at slashdot would print my post verbatim. But if it were an ad, one would have a link, wouldn't one? I just wanted to show my fellow PS3 enthusiasts something they can do with the system. You really suck. I get to go to sleep with your thoughts in my head. Have a nice day.
...I am reminded of exactly what is wrong with Slashdot these days. That irritating, whiny, continual attempt to get the last word in from kids trying to outgeek one another. The guy's done something interesting - don't flame him for not being a linux guru. If you want a better, more technical explanation then go do it yourself...
Dude, relax. Are you new at this whole "Internet" thing? Here's a tip: develop a thick skin or you'll have an aneurysm inside of 5 months.

I read your earlier post mentioning that you're an older gentleman getting a late start in computers. Welcome! Please ignore the rantings of immature children here on
