Metal Gear Solid 4 Not the End
1up gaming is reporting that while Metal Gear Solid 4 may be the end of the road for Solid Snake, the series will live on. "The Metal Gear series is one of the most successful (and profitable) in modern gaming. Would it surprise you, then, to learn that Metal Gear Solid 4 might not be the end of the franchise after all, despite recent comments from series creator Hideo Kojima that led some to speculate MGS4 would be the series' last? Speaking to MTV Multiplayer, MGS4 producer Ryan Peyton confirmed that the series will live on after Guns of the Patriots. But while we may see more games with 'Metal Gear' in the title, we may not see 'Solid' in there as well."
MGS 2 was the "last Metal Gear Solid." MGS 3 was the "last Metal Gear Solid." Kojima is the Barbra Streisand of video games.
Isn't this what Hideo Kojima has been saying all along?
But even Hideo Kojima said this was HIS last one. Would the future one live up to our expectations without Kojima?
The greatest revenge in life is massive success.
...The Search For More Money.
From a nation that's produced 20+ games called "Final Fantasy?"
If you haven't made a developer cry, you've wasted a day.
Will someone please tell me that the first line of this article is just speculation on the part of the editors and not a massive "Snake dies" MGS4 spoiler?
Metal Gear Solid without Solid Snake isn't Metal Gear Solid.
Of course The End isn't in Metal Gear Solid 4. He died in 3, and that was a massive prequel. (Plus, he was already pretty ancient by then.)

WARN
THERE IS ANOTHER SYSTEM
But I wouldn't mind if #5 is a full blown Metal Gear Raiden.
For all the hate about Raiden, I thought that it was only due to the shock of the size of his role, and hate about his appearance. His character wasn't fully fleshed out, so I don't know if I hate him for his youthfully naive attitude to the missions. I found the playability and greater athleticism made him a good character to play, compared to the slow as molasses Snake. It was annoying to fight Liquid as he jumps all over the room, while Snake barely trots along.
Snake's greatest attribute is his gruff character, and bewildered comments ("..."). If the same level of character development was spent on Raiden, maybe he wouldn't be such a universally hated character in the Metal Gear world.
Milk the cow, milk the cow... its nectar tastes sweet and will make you wealthy. Of course Konami isn't going to end this series, Capcom isn't giving any break to Resident Evil either and Nintendo has no intention to put The Legend of Zelda to rest; these are not flagships anymore, they've become pillar supporting the whole company. They're all too afraid to even try without them because it might collapse on their head, there's no more room for taking risks, it has to pay off immediately and, sadly, they can only count on well-established franchises for that. But who is to blame, consumers for not wearing out or companies for lacking the power to create new charismatic tales and characters ?
If more people played the original Metal Gear games (on the MSX), they'd realize that Snake isn't REALLY that developed at all. Hes WAY too overly confident given the way Kojima keeps trying to ground him in reality. (In the Metal Gear canon, Snake has a whopping -two- missions under his belt before the MGS series)
Snake is so badass he can destroy a bipedal nuclear armed tank with a missile launcher, win a fistfight in a burning base while a time bomb counts down next to him and still have the strength and skill to escape ALL this after infiltrating the base, defeating several other bosses, being tortured and learning that he's been played the fool the whole time.
You sir, are an asshole ;)
Pliskin was a hell of a lot more dirivitive than Solid, John Carpenter can't write dialog to save his life, and whether or not it was the fault of Kurt Russell or bad directing, but the acting was so over-the-top that it didn't even qualify as "so bad it's good". David Hayter employs a lot more expression in his voice work, and the character of Solid Snake is just a hell of a lot more intricate, and draws on little personal traits. Sure, sometimes the plots get a bit self-indulgent, but overall, I would say that Solid Snake is a very interesting character. He may innitially rely on a dirivative architype, but he's become so much more than that.
Multiplayer Gaming (defined): Sitting around, discussing single-player games with my friends, at the bar.
Seriously, only anime fanatics would forgive the wussiness of Raiden and the laughably byzantine and melodramatic plot.
What? A financially successful title is going to have another sequel after all? They're not going to stop making products based on a concept to which users have shown a glimmer of attachment? They're going to find some way of explaining a continuation of a popular storyline after a seemingly final conclusion? Even if some of the earlier chapters have shown a risky disregard to quality? Color me shocked! Amazed, really. Will the wonders never cease...

I think that a MGS without Hideo Kojima and without Snake will suck a lot, look Snake's Revenge (that game sucked a lot) and MGS2 with Raven.
Uh, Snake (as much as I love the guy) himself is pretty formulaic, I'm afraid.
Colonel: SNAKE! You must destroy Metal Gear!
Snake: Metal Gear?
Colonel: Sigh... We've been through this. Metal Gear is a mobile device capable of launching nuclear missles from anywhere!
Snake: Nuclear Missles?
Colonel: Goddamnit, Snake. Didn't you learn anything in the debriefing?
Snake: Debriefing?
I only played the second one but isn't MGS3 and MGS4
prequel to MGS1 and MGS2 because his eye gets shot out in the third one and MGS4 he has a eye patch so couldn't they continue on from the ending of the second one. Because didn't they clone snake after he died
