Metal Gear Solid 4 Not the End

1up gaming is reporting that while Metal Gear Solid 4 may be the end of the road for Solid Snake, the series will live on. "The Metal Gear series is one of the most successful (and profitable) in modern gaming. Would it surprise you, then, to learn that Metal Gear Solid 4 might not be the end of the franchise after all, despite recent comments from series creator Hideo Kojima that led some to speculate MGS4 would be the series' last? Speaking to MTV Multiplayer, MGS4 producer Ryan Peyton confirmed that the series will live on after Guns of the Patriots. But while we may see more games with 'Metal Gear' in the title, we may not see 'Solid' in there as well."

What is with the sighing? Get off your high horse. Those 'last' comments most likely come from someone with burnout after years of working on the projects, and especially all the crunch time.

Then the work is over, the product ships, people line up in droves to support it financially, and shower him with positive feedback. After a short break, the burnout goes away, and the support of the fan base drives him to create more.

His character wasn't fully fleshed out, so I don't know if I hate him for his youthfully naive attitude to the missions. I found the playability and greater athleticism made him a good character to play, compared to the slow as molasses Snake. It was annoying to fight Liquid as he jumps all over the room, while Snake barely trots along.

Snake's greatest attribute is his gruff character, and bewildered comments ("..."). If the same level of character development was spent on Raiden, maybe he wouldn't be such a universally hated character in the Metal Gear world.

David Hayter employs a lot more expression in his voice work, and the character of Solid Snake is just a hell of a lot more intricate, and draws on little personal traits. Sure, sometimes the plots get a bit self-indulgent, but overall, I would say that Solid Snake is a very interesting character.
