Open Sauce Foundation Created
First time accepted submitter TekTek writes "In response to the growing proliferation of the use of "secret sauce" as a vehicle for entrepreneurs', venture capitalists', and investment bankers' thinly veiled proprietary machinations, a global consortium of premium condiment manufacturers has launched the Open Sauce Foundation (OSF). Founding members include McIlhenny Company (producer of Tabasco brand pepper sauce), Huy Fong Foods (producer of "Rooster Brand" Sriracha sauce), and Kikkoman (producer of Kikkoman brand Soy Sauce). The new foundation's stated aim is not only to uphold the virtues of buying worthy sauce manufacturers' products, but to demonstrate to the tech, financial, and media communities that "Open" companies, and condiments, can, and do, assume leadership roles in their respective markets."
Is the article not interesting enough on its own merit to have to resort to gimmicks?

It's ROT13 so there's any number of websites that will instantly "decrypt" it for you, but really, it's a gag article that's not worth the effort.

Yeah, but /. at least has (or had) a history of some interesting and playful pranks. Not quite as lame as today's is. Mine's double secure, I ROT-13'ed it twice!
From when I awoke, I knew this was going to be a bad day. But, I didn't know why.
I look at Slashdot and I am struck by the cold dark reality that it is April Fools Day.
Looks like I picked the wrong day to stop reading Reddit.
Heh... I'm happy to say that I thought my aging Ubuntu install actually has "rot13" installed by default, but then I realized it was just an alias for "tr" that I'd stuck in my .bashrc file many years ago. It's been a while....

ROT13 Decryption is relatively easy. Do it 2 or 3 Times, or don't use only a shift of 13, then you might have something
Why not have:
"SAHH DAU PDANA OHWODZKPPAN."
Clue:
I do NOT think two 11s would make a GOOD 7.
We use to do this in ARG's. The Clue would read Negative 11 and a Positive 7 were used.
Load up a ROT13 decryption site like ,web.forret.com/tools/rot13.asp.
Use shift 7 decryption then copy the results and use a -11 shift a decryption and you get
Well, find out yourself.
You weren't going to RTFA anyway.

doesn't look much different from the usual summaries posted on Slashdot.
What we need is glasses that decrypt "Whiter whites! Brighter brights!" into "We added a little more bleach, a bucketload of fragrance, and slapped it in a fancier box in order to charge you more."
It's a substitution cipher:
Plain: abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz
Cipher: nopqrstuvwxyzabcdefghijklm

"It would be wrong to refuse to face the fact that everything is fundamentally sick and sad."
Yes, clever, except that everyone knows the makers of Sriracha sauce sue anybody trying to use the name, even hot-sauce makers from the town of Si Racha. That's the very antithesis of open.

Well, it would be the same as having googlasses do "on-the-fly decrypting" of QR-codes in your glasses field of view so that you have the web-page or URL it links to automatically flashing in yo' goo-goggles. Or doing the same auto-linking for UPC codes on products, or ISBN numbers if you look at a magazine or a book.
;>)
It's like being able to carry around a cueCat with you at all times and using it to scan everything and immediately getting the linked web-page or associated web-searches. Goo-glasses just takes the hassle of carrying the CueCat + laptop + internet-access-portal-device with you into the coolness-of-being-a-hipster-dude who wears funky glasses!

I just realized that the ROT13 text looks a lot like the incantation to summon Cthulhu. I would suggest that people be a little more careful with using ROT13 (note that it even has 13 in the name). Who knows what sort of elder horror might be summoned.

Fake news all day.
It is no longer funny.
I am only reminded that on April one, I look for an alternative site that is not shutdown for the day.
Not OP, but in a similar boat. While I see the "Click for a FREE PREVIEW of the decrypted version of this story!" link, it just takes me right back to this "encrypted" version. Curiously, I also see that link when not logged in.

Thank-you Slashdot, for being so lame on April Fool's that we can just ignore you and get some work done.
For all intensive purposes, "whom" is no longer a word. That begs the question, "who cares"?
Except here, for we have replaced "midnight" with "naan"...
We have? I'm going to have to have words with the owner of the Punjabi restaurant across the street, they close at 9...

To be, or not to be: isn't that quite logical, Slashdot Beta?
alternatively you can just draw all your a's as n's and all your r's as c'c, etc. as the latin alphabet is composed of a bunch of arbitrary shapes. why don't you learn some new arbitrary shapes? You already know at least four ways to write the letter A. The upper-case form, two minuscule (lower-case) forms (roman, like a computer font, and italic like hand written), and cursive (related to italic).
