Definitely laser printer - similar to what everyone else said about the advantages (lasts, doesn't dry, etc).
In addition, you can find cheaper toners, and depending on where you are, refill existing ones at a fraction of a cost.
It used to cost me ~$5 to refill mine that prints up to 4,000 pages. Yes slight less in quality but who cares... It turned out cheaper to do that and print my PDFs than to buy the soft/hardback books.
My advice, search for second hand ones on the trading sites (gumtree, trademe, or whatever).. I managed to get mine for free from someone who donated his on one of those sites.
Alternatively, if you hardly print anything and just need a few pages, just print at a mate's house, or at work..
Won't this leave all Windows machines vulnerable to any other exploit that would gain access to the device, potentially turn it on again, and allow the ransomware to do its damage?
It would be better to remove SMB1 support entirely, or patch it if that's too difficult for MS.
And phones / laptops / etc will need 10 times the power, bring it down to the same situation we're in right now, and were 2, 5, 10 years ago... Big whoop..

What if they were arrested and needed to be photographed, would the law require to wait until a strainer is available else face religious backlashes? Would the culprits be required to have strainers available at all time? And if there are non available, would the culprits get away with the crime?
Just get a copy of httpwatch/fiddler, (wireshark too if you know what you're looking at), and test several hits with a few random sites. Preferably the big sites that tend to have more capacity (news sites, apple, etc..).
Not only will you get the big picture of how long it took to load, but you can also focus on what took too long to load - if it's a network or site issue, name resolution, etc..

I've uninstalled it from any/all browsers for the whole family, and replaced that with uBlock (and uMatrix / Ghostery / Privacy Badger)
