Stopping Trolls Is 'Now Life and Death For Twitter', Argues Backchannel (backchannel.com)

But Backchannel suggests it's because the trolls "are winning," discouraging new sign-ups and driving existing customers to leave. "We suck at dealing with abuse and trolls on the platform, and we've sucked at it for years," Twitter's CEO wrote in an internal memo in 2015. Backchannel argues bluntly that Twitter "has a hate problem." New submitter mirandakatz writes: It's been exactly three years since Twitter first promised to solve its harassment problem. In those three years, the company has made countless such promises, introducing dozens of new "fixes" and even going so far as to ban notorious troll Milo Yiannopoulos last month. But still, abuse on Twitter continues, and stopping it is now critical to the platform's future success...

On Twitter just hte other day I say Donald Trump mention how much he loves Microsoft products and how he perfected Windows 10 by doing a Sudo apt-get install SystemD with WSL. Wow, he twittered I bet Hillary Clinton probably uses Linux boxes. He laughed as SCO unix running Oracle runs his campaign as he took a sip of wine and logged into with VIM because Emacs are for libbies he cribbed to update his blog running on an Erlang CMS.

Twitter rarely bans for single tweets, unless they are doxing or illegal. Milo posted the fake screenshots to encourage his followers to attack his victim, as part of a campaign against her.
It's hardly the first time he has done stuff like posting fake screenshots and being a racist. It was the campaign of harassment that did it this time.

If a raging asshole like Milo Yiannopoulos is what counts as a "conservative" these days, I'd argue the movements problems are bigger than just Twitter.

No. Feminists, anti-feminists, MRAs, conservatives, liberals etc. are not trolls. They just say things people disagree with.
The trolls getting banned from Twitter are organising harassment. Doesn't matter what they believe, what their politics are. It's the harassment that gets then banned.
Don't believe the perpetual victims who claim it's all a conspiracy to silence them. It started with GamerGate, but it was never about shutting down "ethics in journalism" complaints, it was always about the harassment that was used to create the perception of persecution for people who didn't bother to read beyond the tweets.

Yup, the treatment of Jones by Milo and his hoard of nasty little gutter dwellers that lead to the banning. I don't even know what the fuck the problem was. If you don't want to go see the Ghostbusters reboot, don't go see it. Honestly, I felt very sorry for Jones, whose only crime was that she was in a reboot of a movie some pretty twisted individuals now apparently regard as some sort of holy relic.
