HP Unveils Spectre Folio, a Convertible Laptop 'Made of Leather' (techcrunch.com)
HP announced Monday the Spectre Folio, a convertible laptop made of leather. From a report: Unveiled in an over-the-top press event in Manhattan today, that included such turns of phrase as "aluminum has become the gold standard," the device is a convertible laptop with a leather case. As HP put it at the event, "this isn't a PC that's wrapped in leather, it's a PC that's made of leather." So, what does that mean, exactly? Rather than covering the standard aluminum or plastic, the cow skin serves as both the chassis and hinge.
The laptop has a 13.3 inch pen-enabled touch screen and an Intel Core i5 or i7 processor inside. There's 16GB of RAM and up to 2TB of storage. The battery should get up to 18 hours of life on a charge, according to the company -- admittedly pretty solid. Price starts at $1,300 for the variant with the i5 processor.

Leather just isn't my material. I typically play either a tank or a skirmisher, so I need laptops that provide a better Armor Class bonus.
Leather Linux.
For $1500 I would like a choice of OS, thanks.
Not sure using "Spectre" in a name this year is a good idea at all.
specter
noun
- a ghost.
synonyms: ghost, phantom, apparition, spirit, wraith, shadow, presence;
The new HP Spectre Folio, when you want a laptop with the ghost of a cow.
At least it isn't false advertising calling it "Spectre"! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
Holy cow!
The dog loves to chew on my leather shoes. With a leather laptop, the excuse "the dog ate my homework." will be believable once again.

This isn't a PC that's wrapped in leather, it's a PC that's made from the very Holstein cows that were Gateway 2000's Mascots.
are going to love this.
Or that man-made crap that will quickly peel, stiffen, split, crack, and tear?
HP are now in the business of murdering cows.
To make matters even worse, they're moderate, non-partisan, centrist cows. Truly a dying species.
The Russians have won. They have made the world a cesspool of distrust, greed, fear and hate.
Tech support in India is just going to love this.
Have gnu, will travel.
I personally think this is awesome and would love to have one. We're slaughtering all those cows everyday to make non-vegan food, we may as well make good use of the leftovers. Leather can be used for so much more than belts and boots.
I personally prefer bison. Any way I can get a bison-hide model?
The preceding post was not a Slashvertisement.
Oblig. Futurama:
Victor: The seats are stuffed with eagle down, and the dashboard is made from the beaks of a thousand eagles. Also, there are some eagles under the floorboards
Amy: That's an awful lot of eagle.
Victor: Yes, and yet (sighs)
Amy: What's wrong?
Victor: It is just, the luxury edition has so much more eagle. It saddens me to think of you missing out.
Such a product is a reason for me to boycott HP. There are already enough products out there which use parts of dead animals for no good reason.
If it doesn't it will have overheating issues. If it does, it would just be icky.
HP, Invent (silliness)
just not the why.
In Soviet Russia jokes are formulaic and decidedly non-humorous.
Can't wait to see the heat dissipation efficiency, throttling reports ... And why not, laptops catching fire ...
Totof
Spectre ? They couldn't license the rights to Existenz?!!

A computer that's into sadomasochism!
I've abandoned my search for truth; now I'm just looking for some useful delusions.
Or more immediately, will the screen or mobo snap the first time it sees a meaningful amount of force from being packed in a bag or some accidental rough handling?

They should have used pigskin. It feels better, and it would enamor us to an entirely different population that already hates us enough to kill. Nothing lost.
deleting the extra space after periods so i can stay relevant, yeah.
It puts the lotion on the laptop or it gets the hose.
Wouldn't that be haram though? Pissing off muslims is ALMOST as dangerous as pissing off SJW vegans.
"Tech support in India is just going to love this."
The Vegans and Peta will love it as well.
to launch it this past weekend at the Folsom Street Fair.
... Super shitty generic OS.
Great.
That's like getting handmade Hermes luggage to carry your h&m t-shirts and offbrand jeans around. LOL!

This is really a bad idea that wasn't well thought out.
As mentioned, some people from India would find this offensive and India is a major consumer of technology devices.
Add to that people who are against using animals for food and other items.
HP is essentially offending a large portion of their customer base.
Stupid "management".
Spectre Folio. Honest marketing of Intel's trash.
Yet somehow being "forced" to pay for carpet in a car instead of choosing linoleum, or internal solid doors in a house instead of cardboard, or any other number of parts to things that are useful to many but potentially not to *you* (and which provide profit to companies you don't care about), isn't a concern. But sure, get out the pitchforks because you want a company to spend extra money for you to somehow get a product cheaper. Sorry, but that's not how it works. That's not how any of it works!
when it gets cold, it turns into a tablet.
or for some a smartphone.
Hello,
So, in other words, it is an updated copy of Lenovo's 15th anniversary "Reserve Edition" ThinkPad? http://www.notebookreview.com/...
Meh.
