I've been using Wheezy for the past several months for my work workstation as well as my home. No complaints and no problems. Personally, I can do without the hand-holding that Canonical has wanted to do lately. I'm not a fan of Unity and will continue to use KDE until something better comes out.
We run a heterogeneous shop split about 50/50 between Linux (Debian) and Windows (2003/2008). Windows excels at certain things, Active DIrectory, and running.net apps delivered to us by various contractors. Our Linux systems run mission critical services as well as file-servers, and virtualization via VMWare's ESXi products (horribly overpriced but it's the situation that I inherited). I poke fun at the Windows guys fairly often and I get joked at in return, but the reality is that we all realize that it's about the right tool for the job. I don't have a single metal Windows install at home and I don't feel at all left out of the commercial loop, but like everything in life your own mileage will vary.
I appreciate it! I wish that the downward slide that our country seems to be on didn't necessitate exit strategies, especially when I know of so many liberal minded, intelligent Americans. The problem is that our government doesn't reflect this and both sides kowtow to the extremes. Fortunately we have the education and experience to move anywhere, I know a lot of nervous people who aren't quite as fortunate.
I appreciate the advice. There is definitely a world of difference between a short stay and a semi-permanent home, and I've heard stories of the passive-aggressive attitudes towards Americans. I'd also want to check out the climate, as a Nevadan I've been spoiled by the high desert and the proximity to the Sierras.
The fiance and I have been considering emigrating for a few years while we're still young enough to be of value to another nation (I'm 31 and she's 24). Looks like you made the decision that much easier. New Zealand is now ahead in the polls.
Why do foreigners think it's okay to insult Americans again and again?...
For the same reason we make fun of them when they do something stupid. When our nation comes off as a series of paranoid religious zealots eagerly awaiting the next talking point from Fox News I can understand why we get insulted. Like it or not, we live in a global economy and we cannot just take our ball and go home. People like you need to develop a thicker skin and realize that it's not personal.
Amen to this. A mega-corp turned me down because my MA is in anthropology despite the fact that my BS is in computer science. Working in a small shop where my tasks for the day may include programming in: C, Python, PHP (ugh), or Perl, doing network troubleshooting, or administering our Linux servers is a lot more fun than 8+ hours of pure programming every day. As always, your mileage may vary. I certainly know a lot of people who are doing just fine working at the same task day in and day out.
Is the Fox News site down? How about you troll over to Master Limbaugh's page and tell him how awesome he is. People like you who take offense at every perceived insult and immediately assume anybody different from you is one of them commie-nazi-al-quaida liberals make me sick.
Yeah...because I've shown sooo much racism throughout my post history. Two words...Strom Thurmon. Neither party has a clean record on civil rights, I'm willing to acknowledge this, are you?
Wow! I've heard of trolls that write like they're 5, but never of one that writes like they're in-utero. Kudos, sir! You have raised the bar for everybody!
I tend to agree with your post, the problem is that the reality of the situation isn't so nice and neat. As I've posted before, my grandparents came here legally from Mexico. For the sake of argument let's say that they came illegally. My parents have never been to Mexico, were never taught Spanish, and have zero knowledge of the culture, (in this thought experiment) you would have them deported to a nation that they know nothing about to try and get back to the U.S. legally. I'm sorry but the reality of the matter is that some of these people are proud Americans, the fact that some only recognize patriotism by the letter of the law is just sad.
Ahh yes, the partisan attacks. Andrew Jackson may have been a democrat, but the party has radically shifted over the ensuing centuries. Bear in mind that Lincoln was a republican.
With that aside...I am a 2nd generation American, my grandparents were from Mexico (legally) and nobody hates illegals more than they do. I'm a pretty hard-core liberal, but when it comes to immigration policy I lean towards pragmatism. I'm a bit tired of the hypocrisy that the rest of the world shows the U.S. The Mexican-Guatemalan border is heavily guarded, and yet Mexico complains about us putting up a (ineffective) wall.
I suppose the crux of my post is, immigration is a helluva lot more complicated than the Fox News / MSNBC talking points would have us believe.

So basically, Windows is the right tool for things that only run on Windows ... otherwise, use Linux.
That sounds about right to me.

In the end the only true winners, are the lawyers.
Each governmental agency thinks it's an entity unto itself.
- yes, and another wrong belief that many hold is that government is productive, that it can create something. It cannot...
Remind me to thank the magical gnomes who created the interstate highway system in the U.S. It sure does make getting around easier.
B A B A Select Start. Not only can you watch Hulu, but you can be shot 29 times with impunity!

At least we could hear the Harley people coming from a few continents away.
The article was misquoted. Fixed: We Weon't Be Out-Litigated By Apple Anymore
Would Nietzsche have been an Apple user?
...and whoever tagged this article with "Krieger" knows his stuff. Good work.
That's the only reason I'm reading the comments...Kriger FTW!
Better than the alternative, a space unicorn riding a hot babe, summoning a wizard.

Darknets huh? Is that like Kazaa or Bearshare? I kid, I kid...
