but games aren't just for kid, actually a lot of games are targeted for >= 15 years old, I really can't imagine some 30 years old playing with stick and a cowboy hat, but they can sure play with a videogame
xbox live is mandatory if you want to play games online, you know these games that you already paid 60€ to play, psn is mandatory as well if you want to play online, so not much difference except that xbox live isn't free
according to wikipedia Finland has a very low density and most of the population lives in the south of the country, the mountains in the south are quite small as well and Finland is still very small compared to the US
that's the average speed though, Netherlands is quite small and there are no mountains as far as I know, the US on the other hand is huge, you can't expect fiber optic connections in rural areas, that's also the reason why South Korea and Japan come out on top, they are very small country, of course they are also usually better than the rest of the world when it comes to technology
maybe in the US, in Italy it's not uncommon to find tons of paper ballots in the junk a week after the voting
it doesn't matter if it's electronic or paper both people and machine can screw up either intentionally or not but machine are usually better than humans, that's why we use them for other crucial tasks, the problem is that there is no proper testing because they don't really care if the wrong guy get elected, it's not as bad as a plane crashing or a missile hitting the wrong target
yeah I really don't understand why vlc is so popular, aside from not having hardware acceleration the video colors are wrong, smplayer/umplayer is better but I still had some issue when seeking x264 videos, right now I'm using potplayer and it's probably the best video player, mediaplayer classic hc is really good as well
well microsoft just bought skype, it's not like they'll change all their servers in a few months just because they don't use their own products, it would have been a totally different story if microsoft used linux for something like bing
Why would a loner living in their patents basement need collaboration features?
I'll breakdown what I believe are the market segments:
Libre/Open Office = student
MS Office = large corporation/government entity that lacks innovation and shares info in one direction (shit flows downhill)
Google Docs = growth SMB collaborating and innovating
What do you believe?
I'm not american but the US dept. of the interior doesn't sound like a college to me
does libre office provides you with an email client and server, cloud storage and document collaboration?
as usual slashdot readers don't actually read neither the article nor the summary
I use LXDE because it reduces the bloat of a clunky window manager. You do not really have this option in windows, you only have explorer. That's it. If you want an older version? You're suggesting downgrading to an older, about to lose support, version of windows? What kind of suggestion is that? I don't have to downgrade to a distro from 2002 to get a speedy desktop, why should I have to do that with windows.
explorer is the shell not the window manager, also unlike linux where desktop composition is sluggish most of the times, aero with gpu acceleration is much faster than gdi+, if the gpu is too old and can't run aero fast enough you can still disable it(like the win7 starter edition that's used mostly on netbook) or switch to the classic theme(like windows server)
I wonder then if requiring all users to pay a 10c charge would stop piracy completely for site such as this.
actually most pirates that use sites like rapidshare are premium users, why do you think a lot of people cried when megaupload was closed
also the free download speed is already below 200k most of the times, there is no point in using them if they are gonna be slower than torrent
indeed I've been using django from quite some times and it's absolutely great, the only downside is that it's not supported by every hosting providers and it's a little harder to setup, it's not just copy & paste the php file on the ftp
Sony has over 93 million accounts?
As far as I know only about 50 million PS3s have been sold, some to upgraders / replacers / theft or fire insurance claims, so there's probably less than 50 million PS3 user accounts.
The other 50 million or so accounts are... ?
I have 5 accounts myself, iirc 2 europeans, 1 american, 1 japanese, 1 hong kong, I bet others have more than one account too

does that mean they need to provide the source code after distributing the bombs with the uav?
yeah I never use == True/False but I thought it was some stupid error like if(a = b)
- where PHP became a language of choice, with people writing things like: if (myfunc() == True)
honest question, I don't use php that much but what's wrong with that expression?
opendns is doing that but I think it's limited to websites hosted on cloudflare that enabled this warning so probably not many

Our internet is half their speed,

Paper voting means a physical verifiable record.

correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't quicksync use the integrated gpu of sandy/ivy bridge cpus?

I'm no expert but the 727 is an old plane maybe it's just not possible to fly it remotely
because they are using the kinect api to do voice recognition they didn't write their own

The Linux kernel guys show that constant steady frequent releases are the way forwards, note to GNOME and KDE guys, you got it wrong.
I don't know about gnome, but kde release a new version every six months since 4.0

of course the biggest advantage of homebrew is that you will be able to play pirated games
