  1. Re:Europe Launch for PS3 next week on Wii, DS Dominate February Hardware Sales · · Score: 1

9 year olds don't understand the concept of value either. Moreover, they just want to buy the console they think the older kids would like.

Pretty sure the kids around here are enjoying their Wiis right now, no pun intended.

  2. Re:here to stay on Wii, DS Dominate February Hardware Sales · · Score: 1

    To quote the AC:
"Call of duty 3 has sold 1 million on 360, 600 thousand on PS2, 250 thousand on Wii, and 200 thousand on PS3. Madden 07 has sold 3.2 million on PS2, 1.2 million on 360, 350 thousand on PS3, and 300 thousand on Wii."

Break down those numbers based on the number of consoles sold and you'll see some more interesting numbers. Besides, you can't base everything off of the sale of certain games when certain consoles (e.g. the Wii) haven't even met market demand. There's no telling how many people haven't bought a Wii that would buy Madden 07. Moreover, Madden 07 is one of the few games that are worth buying right now for the PS3. Until the market is saturated with games and consoles, many of these figures are meaningless.

While it's true that Nintendo provides excellent games for their own console that appeal directly to their fanbase, it also is true that if third parties produced better games and ports of games for the Wii (than they did with the Gamecube) they would sell more units. Games and consoles are mutually reinforcing items. Consoles sell games and games sell consoles. The beauty of the video game market.

  3. Re:My Perspective on January Game Sales Explode, Wii Dominates · · Score: 1

The irony in this post is that he makes excuses for the PS3's minimal library, but ignores the fact that the Wii launched AFTER the PS3.

If you're going to make excuses that Sony's hardware will have better games coming, the logical inference would be that Nintendo has better games on the way as well.

Until MS can crack the Japanese market, the will be at a decisive disadvantage.

Sony has a good product, the question is whether it will fall in price enough, soon enough, to claim a significant market share. If Nintendo can capitalize on the Wii, they will certainly be able to finance their next console sooner than Sony, and will be able to match the graphics at a lowered price.

Also, in response to a thread above: it is true that games sell consoles, but it is also true that consoles sell games. You may be rich enough to buy a console for one game, but I personally buy the console that has the greatest number of interesting games. If Nintendo has a large install base, the third parties will be sure to capitalize.

Pray tell me, what am I a fanboy of? Somebody really should ban this guy's IP. He's trying to create an altercation that really is unnecessary. If anything my initial post was commenting on the longevity and success of the PS2, while noting the failure (thus far) of the PS3 to duplicate or elipse it's predecessor. Obviously Anonymous Coward is so upset that the PS3 isn't selling that his entire world is falling apart, leading him to depend on profanity to make him "one of the cool kids." Calling me a "moron" and a "pathetic little shit" serves no end but to demonstrate your own inadequacy as a person. Why don't you think of some creative insults that actually have some meaning, considering you make a mockery of yourself by challenging my intelligence.

Another Sony-fanboy posting as an anon. coward. Two things to point out here: 1) There have been reports of PS2 games not functioning correctly on the PS3. Give me a break, I not a poor little whiny rich kid who shelled out his parents money to buy an (under)priced blu-ray player. 2) Next gen developers will go where the consoles have sold. PS2 is now competing against teh 360, PS3, and Wii. Even the Wii's graphics are better than a PS2's. Devs aren't going to keep producing for the console with the smallest install base. Have a nice day Coward.

Yeah, the biggest story is the differential between the 360 and the ps3. Sony can't be liking that the gulf between the ps3 their self-proclaimed "competitor" is getting even wider.

On a positive note, the PS3 has passed up the 3DO in sales (*thumbs up!*)

Another hidden story, from the article:

I can't wait to try some of the new games, but will simply have to wait until my opportunity.
