E3 Renamed Entertainment for All Expo
Next Generation is reporting that what-was-once E3, and what could have been the 'GamePro Expo', has now been renamed to the Entertainment for All expo. 'E For All', for short, will feature an open door policy: all you have to do to get in is pay the $100 admittance fee. From the article: "E for All will be held at the L.A.C.C. October 18-20, 2007, just as the holiday gift-buying season ramps up. Attendees will be able to buy exhibitors' products from the show floor. Dolaher wasn't yet ready to announce exactly which companies are participating as contracts are being worked out. Other highlights at the event will include hands-on opportunities to try out the latest games and gadgets, videogame tourneys, a job fair and 'family-friendly offerings.'"
We can call "yee-haw" for short and wear overpriced hats with the price tags hanging off of them.
I assume the bottled water and light sticks will be given away for free, given the $100 price of entry? :D

At $100 a head they had better bring back booth babes or I predict riots! (or atleast very low attendance, well, honestly at $100 a head I expect low attendance no matter what)

From what I call recall, the whole scope was changing and they would be moving to private meetings in hotels. I guess either that is gone or it is splitting off. I'm actually looking forward to the job fair portion, could prove to be very interesting.
Why does "family-friendly" sound to me like "no half-naked booth babes". That was one of the main reasons to go to E3

Wasn't the E3 show redesign supposed to shrink its size and not allow public admittance? Now it seems it is just being used to sell items and nothing has changed.

Personally, I hope this doesn't get off the ground. I'd rather see an expanded GDC, with more serious discussion and seminars instead of a public amusement fair. Partly, I'd rather the GDC expand because it gives developers more breathing room with their projects. When their main audience is other game developers, the tech demonstrations they have don't have to be so extravagent that they need to fudge the results to convice people "this is what we're aiming for." You can see those quarky, buggy, but above all, real works developers are making or even just skip the demos; a convincing speech helps pull an audience into a developer's dream more than any video ever could.
I'd also rather see E for all left behind because of it sounds too much like E3. The industry is maturing and I'd rather see E3, MTV, and the likes be left behind and develop a more professional attitude.

E3 is in July in Santa Monica this year.
Hell, even the title is misleading as the original article is entitled "GamePro Expo" gets final name. Did they even RTFA?

I went to the e3insider website and revealed to me why E3 died...
it was sponsored by G4.
Sod all that junk in the US, why don't you all come visit Perth, Australia the weekend before Easter and attend G03. The Nullarbor demo party is now part of it too.
This is the same sort of thing that happened before the Chicago CES (Summer CES) died. Open to the public, and then hotel rooms only. I'll stick with the Midwest Gaming Classic.
This strikes me as the same path that eventually led Comdex (formerly a large, important computer show, now a memory) into the dirt. Originally, it was intended for developers, but more and more end users wanted in, and got in. By the end it was nothing but a worthless marketing show aimed at the end users. E3 seems to have followed this same trajectory. This E4A is just the last gasp of breath escaping its lungs.

E3 hasn't been "renamed", it will still take place in hotels, etc, being a "closed" affair. (Read here for more)
Another organization has now created something that will be called "E for All" It is run by IDG, not by the ESA, but it does have the ESA's endorsement. (That is here.)

E-Cup Expo.
"October" means it is not related to the old E3, that is too late for buyers, press, etc. This will probably be more like your local computer swapmeet/fair, but more focused, and without any good deals on prices. Developers/Publishers are not going to sell anything below suggested retail. Whoever is putting money up for this expo should have just gone to Las Vegas, played roulette, and bet on green.
