Ayrshire is far from the middle of nowhere, especially when talking about the coastal parts of it

the problem being with it, especially Ayr, is that there is only (in general) a single exchange per town

a lot of the real country side parts of Ayrshire don't have an exchange of their own and thus get routed to their nearest decent sized town, hence their crappy connection speeds and connection issues

i am originally from Ayr, but , live in Edinburgh now and enjoy the bliss of a Bethere connection at the full 24 megs a sec due to being 438 metres by wire from the exchange

My cousin and mother both live in Belmont in Ayr and get around 7 meg connection , both with talk talk

my aunt, who live a mile up the road in Kincaidston gets about 4.5 meg a sec with AO-hell and my other aunt who stays in Alloway(fringes of Ayr) gets a mere 2 meg a sec.

an old school friend of mine who stays in Maybole gets a crappy 1 meg a sec on a good day.

in the UK this is pretty average for non city connections and to slag it off just shows what an ignoramus you really are skyride

Even if we didn't do it, it's happening. Even if it isn't happening, pollution and landfill are still major problems we have to solve. Oil is still going to run out.

This is a huge opportunity. People developing green forms of power generation, better recycling methods and more efficient devices stand to make a fortune selling them to the rest of the world. It also saves us money on petrol and waste disposal services (i.e. local taxes).

hmmz well have a wee look at this, in general it's about recycling however at 21:45 it specifically goes on about lanfills. you might find it very interesting indeed.

seems from this that recycling, apart from tin, isn't the benefit most people think and is generally worse environmentally than making from scratch
Penn and Teller's Bullshit on recycling
Lanfills also can be used, as seen here to help generate power from the gases in it. it gets tapped and voila.. a groovy source of electricity.

if i have got you wrong on what you meant about lanbdfills then sorry bud, howevere it's worth a watch anyways.

no there werent bud. the farthest north the roman era and middle ages vineyards were(and this is debated) iun Lincolnshire or the Newcastle area.

definitely NOT Scotland... have a look here ib the herald which is talking about past and future vineyards
    especially this bit

"The Romans had vineyards up as far as Lincolnshire. The temperatures were warmer than today and the Romans were producing wine on an industrial scale. Some vineyards were producing 10 to 15,000 bottles per year, probably vin de pays to keep the legionnaires going on Hadrian's war. Then everything collapsed when the Saxons came in. The Normans brought back viticulture and of course the Christians needed wine for Holy Communion. Then it collapsed again in the "Little Ice Age" of the 17th and 18th centuries when it was restricted to the south-east of England. But now it is advancing north again."

sono.... not Scotland...... as a Scotsman i nearly pissed myself at that tbh

Nokia has been well known for making good quality phones, but this is not the reality any more. Hasn't been for past 2-3 years. Flagship product N97 had so many flaws you can not even list them here. Do a google search. N900's hardware has been a nightmare! Just browse talk.maemo.org and you will see why if you are not aware already. Nokia phones used to be good quality phones some 2-3 years ago, but unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case any more.

i have said it before and i'll say it again

the N900 is a sweet smartphone.. i LOVE mine.

Nokia were VERY up front when they released it saying that maemo was "stage 4 of 5" and that it wasn't a phone that was for everyone. it was very much a niche of a niche phone.

the ovi store to be quite frank ISN'T where you get yer apps.. you get them direct to your phone from repositories. these can be accessed simply by adding them to your phone settings

    check here for the settings

also you will find that maemo on the N900 is soon to undergo a change in that it will be going MeeGo - in a sense.

it's still going to have the debian based maemo under the bonnet and then the Meego UI.

Full on MeeGo is Fedora under the bonnet

how many of the people currently slagging off the N900 have actually had hands on experience with it? not too many i would hazard a guess

I went and looked. Full disclosure: I've worked at Symbian or in Symbian-related startups for years now. Death by committee. Years of my life, gone...

well there maemo at the moment however it's about to change to meego. while maemo is based on debian , meego is based on fedora.

i have an n900 and it's pretty fucking sweet. sonish it's changing from maemo to meego.. sorta..lol it's have the meego front end with the maemo under the bonnet

the newer high end devices will have full on meego

and before you open your mouth and let your AC belly rumble Nokia SAID UP FRONT that the n900 and maemo were a work in prpgress and were VERY open about that.

regardless it's a sweet device that i love to use and will continue to do so

as for symbian it's still going, is used by a massive amount of handsets and will continue to be used.

remember not everyone is as up on things or even give a shit about high end or fashion devices(yeah a dig at iOS fanboi-ism).... some people just want a phone that simply works and symbian certainly does that. from what i gather the new revisions are not bad at all and do some funky shit.
