Right on! I agree 100%. Myself I'm a big gaming fan as well and not a 100% loyalist to any one brand or console. I have owned the 2600, colecovision, SNES, PS, PS2, GBA, GCB, NDS, various gaming capable PC's blah vblah blah and such - but never an X-box. I'm actually considering a 360 purchase for the first time ever, and I've always sided with Playstation being better than the x-box as my system of preference being an avid PC gamer and all. I think Nintendo out of all the consoles needs every break it can get. I'm getting off track though. I do think this delay is a blessing in disguise for European gamers, and the competiton as you point out.

Exactly. The average European gamer has everything to gain by having to wait in my opinion. It's bad for Sony obviously as you pointed out - meaning it's good news for Nintendo and Microsoft. One good thing for everyone I see about all of Sony's blundering with the PS3 launch and media handling thus far is that it's leveling the playing field more. More competition and a diverse base of console owners is going to step on some toes initially, but in the long run I think it will make the gaming world as a whole better off, if not even more competitive which I see as an advantage to us gamers. I could very well be wrong though on this.

  6. They Should Consider Themselves Lucky on EU 'Happy' To Wait For PS3 · · Score: 2, Insightful

So they have to wait '5 months'. Big deal. It's not like there is a handful of must play titles coming out with launch. It's not like within 1/2 a year or more, minor defects will be fixed and a newer and better model of the PS3 will be manufactured. It's not like that extra 5 months won't better show which console is more established to better choose from which system will meet their individual preference for titles and gaming habits. Consider it a blessing in diguise if you will Europe. If the money is burning a hole in your pocket that badly - go grab a wii with Zelda.

People engaging in this type of activity...definitely a desperate cry for attention and recognition by inescure people that in doing so are among the darker side of the online gaming world. Not to mention, dishonest. I would hope Microsoft (or whoever) finds a way to kabosh this sort of thing.

  8. It's going to take more than one really great game on How Important is Gears of War for Microsoft? · · Score: 1

One game alone is not going to make the majority of the playstation's fanbase or people expecting to initially purchase a PS3 jump ship. A few? Sure. But this isn't the eighties where that might have worked betwen atari and intellivision or nes and sega. Many PC gamers that are also console gamers such as myself will barely mutter an audible pshaw whether GOW sinks or swims. Hello? Halo anyone? Whether casual gamers or people that don't know jack between analog and infared, or fanboys just in it to be in the majority of what's 'cool' will react is anybody's guess. So this one title's success is not all 'that' important to users picking one system over the other initially in my opinion. A little bit though? Yes, I think so. What is really important for 360 to win over loyal gamers and diehards as well? Having crucial success in the RPG arena and releasing a handful of must play RPG titles, old-school and new. If they do that, they're bound to move the 360 to a hardcore, diehard segement of the gaming community that lives for these kind of titles, many based in Japan. If they can obtain and maintain the best, most must play RPG titles available they'll move a lot closer to a number one place globally.

  9. Well it's all still speculation at this point on Sony Needs To React to Microsoft · · Score: 1

A year from now after the dust has settled it will be interesting to see how it all plays out. Sony is banking on the future and looking down the road past launch. What it is really going to come down to is the titles available for each console. Price is a factor, but great games are what make most gamers take notice (I hope) of what console to invest in. Sony should be worried about the competition, those are interesting points, but the competition should be worried about the PS3 as well. Sony shouldn't be underestimated, and the PS3 despite it's hefty price and heavy handed marketing strategies and failures has amazing capabilities and they have a huge fanbase coming off the PS and PS2. I think they will have succes with the PS3 if they can provide good games, 360 has the more interesting titles in development right now though IMO

Nintendo is showing some gutsy, smart maneuvering in the war of consoles to come. I hope they have even more suprises up their sleeves. Perhaps the golden age of PC action/adventure titles such as the 90s' SCUMM/Lucas Arts titles etc will start being ported next? One can only hope...by porting these classics and the likes of those C64 titles, they're attracting old and new gamers alike. Now if only they could work on some new titles for adults, like RE4 or Scarface/GTA and such.

  11. 40 Hours Ain't Nothing on The Myth of the 40 Hour Game · · Score: 1

Now if he was talking 70 or 80 hours I could see his point. Or even take something like Shim Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne which will take most around 100 hours to completely solve. Games like that take me a whole season and more to complete. That's a bit too long IMO, 50 hours or less is preffered and I actually really enjoy the 30-40 hour game about the most with so much else to play and a limited amount of time to do so. Hell I've been replaying Half Life 2, GTA:SA, and Far Cry lately and for the first time Xenosaga 1 and Company of Heroes, granted I have about 25 hours a week to play games - 3/4 of that time has been going to these PC titles and a 1/4 to Xenosaga. So it'll take me around 3 or more months to finish Xenosaga, and that's without doing all the sidequests. That's just about too long for me, but everyone's different and may devote all their time to one game at a time (although that is prob just barely the minority). A big part of how long a game get's played is the save system 70 hours on GTA:SA with a good save system would be closer to 50 or maybe 60. BTW, Rockstar needs to pull their heads out of their !@#$@ and do better ports to PC and get rid of that archaic save system.

You know I consider myself an avid gamer who doesn't really discriminate, well maybe a little against the x-box of old, but I am an equal oppurtunity gamer. My favorite console has definitely been the PS2 (more so than even the SNES), but I have a gamecube and a DS and I keep my main PC up to date and I play everything from what's current to 80s arcade classic in java/mame to SNES emulated titles on my laptop. Now when Sony releases a statement saying the Japanese are going to have the PS3 for cheaper than us US gamers or gamers around the world, I think $%@# Sony! It's just one more bumble in a long line of bumbles...are they trying to drive their customers away? I'm not buying either the PS3 or wii initially, but I will purchase a next gen concole sometime in 2007. None of them have the best titles that I can tel of yet, but if I was to pick one now I hate to say it'd prob be the 360 and the wii. I don't see myself buying a PS3 til 2008 when I read crap like this. I know I'm not alone. Pull your head out of your @#$ Sony.
