Gee, Dharbee, haven't you been paying attention to the article? They cut off their internet access, while saying the library's online. It's BS. The library contents online are a joke, and that link was TO the libary of the school in TFA to show you exactly how useless it was. You missed it. Too bad. Have a great day!
Ok, let's run this through:
John has a paper due the next day, and starts at 11pm. The library closes at 6pm, so he has NO reference material. He didn't stop by the library, so he's in need of reference material. Without the Internet, and with a LIMITED library available, where does he get it?
I'm not going to argue that most students would've started earlier. I'm suggesting that when they DON'T, the ONE reference they COULD have used for ALL their research is missing during the time they need it. Why? The college they pay to educate them instead wants to make moral judgements on their hard drive content and free time.
I never said you didn't read the FA. I'm positing that you're not THINKING about it. Ms Thosar-Dixit said students would not have access to the internet in their hostel rooms between 2300 and 1230 but could log on in the library or their departmental laboratories where access will be uninterrupted.
Which college library has *all* their BOOKS online? You can get summaries online, and a few of the major reference periodicals, but aside from that, MOST of the materials in a college library are OFFline.
Just where in the article did it say the students couldn't do their work in the library?
And why are you assuming all college libraries are open 24 hours?
Almost all of the information can be rendered in HTML, will be freely hosted by universities, gets indexed by google, and spread via all sorts of communication forums.
If you're really interested in storing and distributing information long term, you'd not use computers or electricity. Daylight and eyeballs are generally free, open-source, and pretty darn reliable in most cases...
However how many bands do you know have switched labels? none that I know of maybe someone else knows where to look.
Never heard of Paul McCartney? While I may not like her work, I've heard of Jessica Simpson.
These examples were found within 2 minutes of looking. Try checking a little more closely next time before you post.
To them, it was impossible to 'claim' their land -- since they didn't consider it 'their' land.
Best summed up by Chief Seattle, in 1854: "This we know: the earth does not belong to man, man belongs to the earth. All things are connected like the blood that unites us all. Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself."
whereas Windows users tend to gain at least a basic appreciation for proper security practices.
Don't take this personally, but:
What frickin' planet are YOU on? Most Windows users expect Windows to take care of all that FOR them....and boy, are they surprised to find that clicking that "You're infected! Click here to pretend to fix your computer whilst actually infecting it!" actually DOESN'T fix a darn thing. I'm not talking ALL Windows users, but it's a frighteningly large group.
What MOST Windows users want is a system that doesn't make them THINK.
AED is the tool that actually saves lives.
While I was working at that medical facility, I took the opportunity to recertify with the office. We covered AEDs in addition to the normal compression/breathing routine. Someone mentioned only medical professionals get this training, and my card DOES say "Healthcare Professional" on it as well as specifically mentioning AEDs. Is the AED training available to the public yet, or will I lose my certification at some point? Anyone?
You managed to sum up most of the reply I was about to give. As for the GP's rant? Rather than being "sanctimonious" concerning TV, I'm just bored with it instead. Nothing personal.
I continue to maintain that some psych major will have a field day studying the various pathologies that exhibit themselves on/.
Wow... and here all this time I thought it was PEOPLE displaying them, not the various pathologies displaying themselves....
The fact is that people go to the Internet for their information more than they go to TV and Radio -- and if you're not even going to watch TV, what are the odds you'll pick up a magazine?
Sick of idiotic crap on TV != doesn't read.
I've seen more Samsung drives fail at the shop recently than any other. I hope they've got their QA metrics set a bit higher for the new drives....but I'm not holding my breath.
America needs smarter citizens.
(who respect intelligence, and don't vote for certifiably stupid leaders)
This requires focusing on education and immigration policy reform.
Policy reform won't do a darn thing. You're talking a MAJOR cultural/mental shift for many Americans. Many people don't feel the NEED for education, so never pressure their kids to study. After all, their Little Bubba's the next NFL star! Coach said so!
If you're hoping to show that one region is tougher than another, I'd advise against it; America is amazingly homogeneous.
At first glance, mayhaps. Check out Richard Jeni for an observation on the differences between a scrap in NYC and in the south.... To THIS guy [who's lived all over the US], it was hilariously on the money. I'm not saying either region is TOUGHER, each just has different styles of approaching combat.
but is a recreation of the sims/second life really worth 599 us dollas?
Most of us are too busy living our real lives to want to bother watching an artificial representation of the same.

I wouldn't call masturbation optimal...
Ok, fine... This should settle it: Tell me how useful you would consider their library's site to be for reference.

Never assume; it makes an ass of Uma Thurman.

You insensitive clod! *I* have a herpes/dairy-product covered Love Missile.
Sick of idiotic crap on TV != doesn't read.
Danger, Will Robinson!
Silly me, I was under the impression that those were protected execpt in cases of actual criminal activity...
I'll relay here what I see at the shop, and mod me up or down.
I'll not back from my opinion 'cause of some mod-happy clown.

I'm just glad she didn't lose it on any of those test flights near Washington...
I thought the line was "Only Bucky stays dead..."

If living in America, did you perchance live in a northern state? I'm betting so.
