Unlocking devices isn't as relevant in the US as it is in other parts of the world. The big 4 in the US all use different technologies to provide service, so taking a device from carrier a to carrier b doesn't make sense in terms of being useful. Of course there is always the argument of "it's my device let me do what i please" and I agree more with that, but those people should pony up the full retail value of the product. If you buy a phone that is carrier subsidized you're essentially financing the phone over 2 years.
If the carriers want to move to an unsubsidized model they should give consumers an incentive to pay upfront costs. T-Mobile's "value plan" is a good example. The customer buy's the device at a discount and pays an additional fee of $20 until the device's retail value is paid off. The plan then becomes $20 cheaper. If carrier's want a BYOD to work they need to offer cheaper rates.
The carriers can offer their retail salespeople a rate plan of $20 at the cost of BYOD. Why can't they do this for consumers? The plan's dont even have to be that cheap, but a $40-50 plan is not out of the realm of possibility. When I worked retail I bought my own Galaxy S3 and paid $25 for my plan. For an upfront cost of ~$520 I saved about $1800 over the cost of a 2-year consumer rate plan
I dont have an Instragram account, so i didn't pay too much attention to the hype around the ToS changes. What I did gleam from it was the change saying Instagram could sell your images without paying you a dime or even letting you know about it. That's essentially what Facebook's user agreement says without expressly saying so. You own the content, but they sub-license it. IE. They do what they want and you're screwed.
This product comparison from Microsoft leads me to believe that applications have to be rewritten to behave correctly on Windows 8 Pro. Notice the blurb about downloading apps from the Microsoft store. This does not say you can download any plain old exe file. The mention of Windows 7 applications could be those that have already been rewritten to be compatible with the tablet.
If that's the case, iOS and Android apps witten for the ARM architecture greatly outnumber those for x86.
every/.er will see it, eh? I read this article because it popped up in my twitter feed. Im not sure where this poll is that you speak of and I probably wont see it. I'll close out this article and move along to the next item in my news feed
Also, for some reason about 80% of the UK population seem to be incapable of keeping their cellphone number when changing provider (even though it's a legal requirement for the companies to let you port it) and with some people, this seems to involve changing numbers on a fairly regular basis.
If it works anything like it does here in the States, customers have to have their account number and security pin readily available when switching carriers
Your security pin is something you should know off hand if you bother with the carrier on a regular basis. Some carriers even tie that to your voicemail so if youre checking voicemail you know your pin. However, the account number is a pain because the only place you'll see that is on your monthly statement. I dont know anyone who carries their statement with them even if they know they're coming to the phone store. The only option from there is to call the carrier to speak with a rep who can tell you your account number. That takes time, and most people just wanna get a phone and get out.
I love the idea of a dual booting tablet, but it doesnt really strike me as a consumer device. I hope each of the pledged backers really understands what they're getting. It should beat out that $99 walgreens tablet but it's not going to be the iPad killer by any means
yep, my parent's just got a car with a bluelink package, and the most basic GPS features are lumped into their most expensive package. That's just insane considering those features can be had for $100 upfront cost or by use of her smartphone considering she's already paying for a data connection.
If their earnings report has already been leaked and the results arent good doesnt that mean shares will still fall in price? If the new report has drastically different results wouldnt you suspect Google is simply flufffing up the results to save face?
What's so quiet about Nokia maps? Tim Cook named Nokia maps in his apology letter. I'm sure that someone, whether it be Samsung, Google, Apple pr maybe even HTC, will turn that letter into a TV or radio commercial. It may have happened already. I just haven't seen it. The reason I say this is because Cook expressly says "create a shortcut to Google maps." A statement like that is ripe for advertising abuse.
Apparently the OS of this phone is a flavor of Android that runs Android apps. What happens if it runs them poorly? An uninformed customer starts bashing Acer, and Google(because it's a smartphone so it must be Google) China is a big market, so there's no doubt word would spread and just like that Android loses to Apple clones in what is possibly the biggest market.
There are plenty of manufacturers that produce Android devices without Google's blessing. Archos is one that im familiar with. I had a handheld much like an ipod touch. It came with android 2.1 or something like that and it didnt have the Market app. Instead Archos had a app store. By now the thing could probably use the Amazon app store or any one of them.
Isn't Acer one of the companies destined to design one of Google's new flagship devices? Perhaps thats why they've been given such harsh treatment
This produce has been modified from its original version. It has been mutated to give school children early-onset puberty and destroy your digestive system"

When opening this article I half expected to read about the next installment of Grand Theft Auto or some other title riddled with adult themes.
if only i had mod points...
Nokia has given up, but is there still a dev community for it? Are consumers sticking to Symbian for some app that doesnt exist on other platforms?

Explain how to expand the e-mail header to show the senders full address ie. Josh
Then simply explain the whole "never talk to strangers" bit and make comparisons to tech where possible.

I haven't played with Windows 8 out of the box, but I really hope there aren't first boot tutorials that showcase touch capabilities
HTC's One series phones are a lot better

I'd imagine this will work like a few of the download managers that scan files before executing them.

John imsoclevercauseichangedmymiddlename Smith is targeted under this new scrutiny. There are probably 20-30 people on my facebook who do that.
