If I remember correctly, Alzheimer's disease is caused by the build up of obstructive plaques. these plaques specifically of the beta-amyloid variety are more than likely not dependant on how many crosswords you did or any critical reading you did. Genetics seems to play a very large role in whether you eventually get Alzheimer's disease although other factors could also increase the likihood of Alzheimer's disease. ie the genes associated with it may very well only be part of the story, perhaps in addition to having these genes, you also need certain environmental conditions- like brain damage, high blood pressure etc... Wikipedia goes into basic detail on the matter.
very misleading healine. I RTFA and if you look at the nice graph, it actually shows a decrease in power usage since feisty and just about what the prior versions were. AC power consumption idling went from 31 to 29 from feisty to gutsy. while loaded, it went down slightly from 51 [feisty] to 50 [gutsy] the only thing that gutsy was higher in was battery discharge rate idle- it was at 22.26 while feisty was at 21.16. while loaded on battery it went down from 33.51 to 32.21 from feisty to gutsy.
Might have a bit of use in different "Second lives," but you're gonna end up linking economies such that you end up with essentially one giant world economy with exchange rates. I guess that's the idea.
I dunno, I think its going to either make all the games seem the same, or end up carrying over very little.
*probably bad analogy warning* imagine if travel worked like MMORPGs now. you'd need a whole new set overything you have, from the cash you make, your job, your house, your clothes, car etc. all different sets for each country you visit. what exactly is the sense in that? why does it make any more sense doing it with MMORPGs? does not having seperate sets of everything for each country you visit make it the same? does it make traveling dull, uninteresting and a waste of time? why would it do so with MMORPGs? amagine a network of online banks [standardized that is] that let you transfer exchange credits to different games, of course there would need to be a way to determine the relative worth of them as credits in second life would require a different amount of work than another game. would that decrease the playing value of the game? does the fact that the EU standardized their currency make theirs any less worth visiting?
If it doesn't work in Windows, it will only see a fraction of the OO.o market.
The point of the open source movement was to ensure people have a choice. make software better and open and hopefully that will make it common. If Koffice can do better than Openoffice then they'll have the attention of at least the/.ers here:)
why do you assume all the cars will have this? how many people mod their cars, especially if all it takes is removing a single fuse? why bother with hacking on-star when you can set off an emp weapon and target everything regardless of what is installed?
This is yet another reason why the futuristic shows that show everthing 'connected' is bad for us.
no, technology isn't the problem- it is never the root of the problem. the agnorant and apathetic nature of society *IS* the root of the problem. take away the checks and balances of power and you get corruption. without corruption, there isn't a problem.
There was a similar problem with fluorocarbon based blood substitutes in that they also increased the risk of stroke. perhaps this problem with nitrogen monoxide is the cause of the higher risk of stroke
sigh... it's been a while since I actually toyed with windows but surely there is a way to run single programs under a different user account... other than that I'd suggest you try sourceforge and see what there is on sandboxed environments. then there is the option to use alternate programs to view PDFs, foxit seems like a good one from prior posts. there are others but I don't know which ones have been ported to windows. though I wonder what happens if you were to run programs like PDF reader under a VM under another OS... any code that can execute in a particular OS probably won't run under another one. so what would happen if you ran one OS inside of another and tried this? linux running throug ha VM shouldn't be affected by the security hole in a PDF reader... unless it is OS agnostic then we have a problem.
you mean you didn't set noscript to block other plugins too? or did you mean an update for noscript much like the one that protects against that cross site scripting mess?
If it's also vulnerable on IE7 + Vista, luckily IE7 runs with such limited privileges that the code execution won't be able to do anything other than writing to the internet temp folder. That is, if you haven't turned off UAC.
get your free ringtones/[other garbage appealing to the less technically inclined] here!!!! and if you see a UAC window, just click ok to download!
a schoolmate of mine had one that made a nice arc over the school and actually hit a new car- someone needs a new window. it was kind of interesting to watch one of mine [3-stage] do a perfect arc toward a construction site half a mile away... I bet they had a cool story to tell.
anyone who's ever built those x-wing rocket models would know this was going to happen- it is the reason they were launched last. simply because at least one of them broke apart and nearly killed someone on the ground.
Why is there a consistent negative vibe around IE7, calling it a "forced update" and so on?
antiMS feelings of slashdot. [rightfully so]
Speaking as a web developer, IE7 makes my life a hell of a lot easier. It's not perfect (it's not even great), but it's definitely better than IE6.
as a web designer you probably appreciate firefox, opera and pretty much every other browser follwing the standards better than IE. there isn't really a technical reason why IE doesn't follow the standards, it seems to be solely to lock out the competition. look how many webpages have been written for IE and to hell with other browsers... the bast thing MS could do in the situation would be to remove any roadblocks, artificial or technical to adopting their browser and by extension any standards, OSes etc. that tie in with that. it's in their best interests to get people accustomed to using their software, pirated or otherwise. at least in that case they aren't using anyone else's browser.
doesn't a bone marrow transplant do a similar thing? in that case, your bone marrow has different DNA than the rest of your body, or really any transplant would be considered a man-made chimera...
create a karma threshold where 0 or lower disables the ability to make anonymous posts? limit the number of anonymous posts according to the anonymous author's karma so higher karma= more trusted while lower karma= less time to post cowardly. those who consistently make good posts get to hide under anonymous coward more than those who post meaningless rants. encourage good behavior instead of feeding the trolls. they troll in part because there are no relevant consequences. maybe even a system where karma "rots" over time, if you don't post for a year for example, your karma would have decayed back to the default. the more you post insightful commentary the better your karma looks.
I don't know. I slightly agree that it's "high", but I also can't really argue that it's appropiate.
a quarter of a million dollars is excessive no matter how you look at it. that's a house dude.
$20 a CD. How many times were the files downloaded? That adds up pretty quickly.
yes about that, did they show how many times the material was copied? can you tell me that it was about 10,000 cd's worth from this?
It would be sort of like arguing that just because you stole something doesn't mean you're liable to replace the seller with the selling price or give the item back. You can argue there that nobody would have bought it either, but it's not very relevent.
except in this case, music can be copied for our purposes an infinite number of times, there is no supply problem, there is however, a problem with the entire business model- in that it will fail horribly while things like this continue to happen regardless of how nasty companies get- how many people they sue for a significant part of a million dollars...
To me it seems pretty obvious. Giving away music is copyright infringement. Don't do it and get caught. And if you do get caught doing it in massively high volumes, expect to get fucked.
That's true and at the same time very sad, almost none of our art is for the sake of art, rather it is for the sake of making some people rich, in many cases not the artist. this isn't a sustainable business model, it is broken in every way and it will eventually change or the entire thing will die. theres going to be a change, it is up to them to make it for better or for extinction.

I wonder how much of that spending went to training their employees that "password", "letmein" and lastly "123" are *NOT* the best passwords.
actually, I noticed that sometimes for whatever reason, it doesn't make it clear something isn't spelled right.

you know what is next, it'll become illegal for anyone to have only one copy of a cd because other people can hear it.

reminds me of the time the FBI/CIA were doing some curious editing of their own. quite random in their posting
do they french not know of tor/proxy servers?
but this isnt the first time we've known they use tools. check this out http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7329182515885554944 [clever crows]
heh.. but I'm sure it wouldn't be very fun for anyone to accidentally inhale a few dimes in their sleep.
except that in spacecraft, small free-floating objects are choke hazards.
