I agree. Government should prevent force from being used, for example, to stop you from bashing me over the head with a sack full of iPhones.
However, nobody has a right to tell Apple that they have to open their platform to more apps. Regardless of whether or not that would produce innovation, your desires do not override others freedom. You don't get to tell people what to do just because you don't like how they operate. In an anarchy, might makes "right", but in a civilization, that should not be the way it works.
Huge yagi antennas could kill property values, my own included. Also, the federal government has no authority to overrule local governments on such an issue (the law you linked is entirely unconstitutional).
But something like a 20m inverted V on the roof should be fairly inconspicuous. I may try and plead my case with them at some point, making the argument that it would be valuable for emergency communications to have an HF operator in the neighborhood.
I don't expect to have much luck, though. Even cell towers around here are hidden in fake-looking clock towers, and such. I'll probably have to settle for whatever I can get working in my attic.
It's funny. Everybody uses that same excuse. It has become self-fulfilling. Most people I know don't really like the Republican or Democrat platforms, but they vote for them because they think those are the only credible options. The end result being that those are indeed the only credible options. If people would vote for who they really wanted, it wouldn't be a problem.
I voted 3rd party in 2008. Was my vote wasted? Well, if I had voted for Obama or McCain...we'd still have ended up with Obama or McCain - so also a wasted vote.
Stop voting for the lesser of two evils and vote for someone who isn't evil.
That's all The Terrorists need: a snow making machine.
It's all coming together now! THIS must be why so many people were upset over the Dubai Ports World deal. They have the weapon - they were just trying to get it into our cities!
There is no reason you couldn't do both - you know, ease the pain during the drive a little.
Speaking of nukes and DC - can you imagine if they ever tried to evacuate D.C. for any reason? Think rush hour x10. I think I'd grab my bike and hop on the W&OD and just ride west. Probably be going faster than the people on 66 or 7.
Would 1 death be acceptable to you in a war started for dubious reasons? If not, then you are part of the "without regard for body count" to which the poster was referring. If you are one of the people who believe the war is a good thing, then a 4 digit body count probably doesn't look so bad until that is the only thing you ever hear about the war on TV. I think that was the poster was saying.
...that is actually a great idea (rare for Slashdot). It would be impossible to ever pass something like that now, though. Still, I wish the founders had thought of it.
Lights out - cold Coke - melodic trance at an excessive volume. Location doesn't matter as I can't hear anything but the music, or see anything but the code.
Everybody has their own opinions. I loved 10, for example. It was probably my 3rd favorite FF (after 7 and 6). 9 would be my 4th favorite, probably. Didn't like 8 and 10-2, and couldn't get in to 12.
Non of them are bad games, it just depends what aspects of the game you like.
I agree we need democracy in orbit. There is no better method of decision making than letting the American people decide. For example, the shuttles themselves should be designed and built by the people. And the voters should decide who gets to be on the crew.
Wait, wtf am I talking about? Just call the damn thing Serenity already and tell Colbert "you can't take the sky from me".
She is very lucky she didn't get shot. You'd have to be insane or a moron to wear something like that to an airport. She got in to MIT though so I vote "insane".
Can you really blame them for wanting to play the game they're shelling lots of good money out to access, though? Not at all. But some people don't think that way. Recently, a friend of mine lost a lot of his "friends" to another guild. He thought he was good friends with these people, but now they don't talk. I explained exactly what you said. This is a video game. The point is to have fun. That can mean making friends, but more often it just means "phat lewtz!!1".
I have seen real relationships formed, but for every one of those I have seen twenty superficial relationships ended by the promise of better loot or a bigger and better guild.
The author doesn't mention this, but I would just like to state that this usually does not apply to MMORPGs. I have seen "friendships" breakup so someone could boost their Stamina. While I'm sure some real friendships do take hold in that environment, most are purely superficial. Or at least that has been my experience in my 6 or so years of online gaming.
How the hell would the public know that the plane was carrying nukes unless someone leaked the info delberately. It isn't inconceivable that a member of the public saw the plane. You can tell they are nukes just from looking at them. Well, maybe you and I can't, but some people I know can.
All regulation isn't bad.

Nothing says innovation like government regulation!

My HOA doesn't allow hanging wire, you insensitive clod!
73, KJ4BRU
Take a look at his position on warrant-less wiretapping, whitehouse emails, prison abuse photos, his "openness" on fiscal spending, etc.
But hey, tell yourself whatever you need to to justify your vote.

the FBI isn't ready to give up its Bush-era secrecy addition just yet
"Bush-era secrecy" is what you will get if you vote for most any Democrat or Republican. Obama isn't any different.

Excuse me, but are you suggesting that drivers on the beltway put the entire city and surrounding area at a risk equivalent to nuclear war?
...yeah that's about right...
Our constitution doesn't grant the federal government the authority to fund research.

I can not believe this was tagged Firefly so quickly. I am truly among my peers here on Slashdot.
When the scientists realize this simple truth, AI will become a child's problem.
That is not a new idea at all. Scientists are well aware of pattern matching in the human brain. AI is still not "a child's problem".
Oh, two Sundays. That makes more sense. In true Twitter fashion, my post was hastily constructed and poorly considered.
OMG LOL WTF?! IT TOOK THEM 2 WEEKS 2 LRN TO TWEET. WTF IS THAT? ONE DAY 2 LERN TWITTER AND THE REST TO LERN TO MAKE POASTS LIKE THIS ONE?!?!?!?1

What exactly does wires and batteries attached to a T-shirt look like then? My first thought would be "bomb". "Robot" would be my second.
