Well, one thing that's broken... I have five versions of visual studio installed on my computer. Visual Studio 6, 2005, 2008, 2010, and 2012...and 2013 soon. Looking at the Apps menu, I cannot distinguish between 2005, 2008, 2010. They all look like this "Visual Studio 20..." The text is too long to display. The whole Apps menu is complete impossible to find anything on. They took every single item, took away our subfolders and put everything on a single screen with large fonts and distracting icons. I can find anything on this menu without spending like five minutes searching.
Change is annoying and painful and frequently costs money. But after forcing myself to use Windows 8 (at home) for a few months, I'm getting used to it. I still have trouble finding stuff quickly though. I'm dreading the day when I have to switch my work desktop to Windows 8. Windows 8 is very pretty but it's a less efficient desktop UI. That's not fear of change, that's just a fact.
I've dealt with these assholes, over poppies growing in my yard, the garden variety not the obvious illegal ones
The illegal ones are "the garden variety". Our grandmothers/mothers could be shipped off to prison for opium production if the agent/cop in question wants to take the laws to ridiculous level. Which is what the agent here did. Who would be recording a movie with google glass? You'd have to sit there unable to move your head for 90-130 minutes. It's simply not practical.
Chinese Jet Pilot is a reference from the movie Army of Darkness. It's like saying: Yeah, and I played darts with queen of England. I believe he's saying your full of shit.
It's been my experience that people don't want honest and competent leaders. They want the guy who lies and cheats and makes them feel special because he blows sunshine up their asses and gets things done by any (shady) way possible.
Now, that would be a good password. How many hackers would try composing a complex sentence like that? Maybe if everyone did passwords like that, but few people do. It would be like writing a virus to infect machines browsing the internet with Lynx...what's the point? Maybe 1 in 1,000,000 users will be using Lynx.
No kidding. Video chat? That's been available to the average PC user for over 10 years. What kids should be doing right now is interfacing their PCs and microcontrollers with the real world: Making robots, drones, 3D printers, automated beer brewing systems, fabricating their own parts, etc. The information on how to do these things is all over the internet. It's easier now than it ever was.
I mean they have a planets with oxygen count for about a 1000 light year radius and can't even tell what's in the atmosphere on a moon inside our own solar system
What moon can't they determine the atmospheric makeup of? It's a pretty straight forward and well understood process...I think most of us learn about it around the age of 10. The light from the sun is reflected off the moon's atmosphere, picked up by a telescope and run through a prism. Certain elements absorb specific wavelengths of light. So you look at the spectrum and see which wavelengths are missing and you know what elements are in the atmosphere.
I'd love to see bike infrastructure built up everywhere.
Agreed. I think a lot of people see biking as too much trouble. But as a 40 year old smoker who recently started biking. It's really not as bad as you think. I'm still amazed at how fast and easy it is to bike several miles across the city (Denver) on a dedicated path. If only the dedicated paths went to more places (especially my office and the grocery store), I'd have little reason to use my car (except in the winter).
You don't need need a large telescope to discover supernovae. A CCD, a decent backyard scope that can take good exposures, and a computer is all you need. And since when does an astronomer need to own the equipment he's using for his work to be taken seriously?
In the middle of a dog fight is not where you want to have to lift your visor that gave you all those nifty capabilities.
Dogfight? What century do you think this is? I'm not really an expert, but my understanding of modern air battles is that they launch missiles at each other from extremely long distances.
I don't see why we don't look into tilting the Earth's axis back perpendicular to the plane of the ecliptic. Bam! Problem solved. And none of those pesky seasons either.
America is the home of capitalism, which means competition, which drives down prices and raises standards.
Competition. Right. My choices for internet are 50 mbps Comcast (which has to be bundled with cable service I don't use) or 1.5 mbps DSL. Seems there's lots of competition here.
The classical education system really does have value.
And yet, getting one doesn't make you a good engineer. Some people just aren't good at it regardless of their education. Some people are good at it regardless of their lack of education. I agree on your points about communication, but what good is a geek who communicates well if he can't do the geek well?
Well, my world map says Ukraine. And I'm not pro-Putin and I certainly have no intention of sinking any barbs. If there's a better word...what is it?

Did we learn nothing from the USSR and the Iron Curtain?
Mentally reviewing the last decade has led me to conclude...no.
Asimov was a smart dude, and he did a lot better at predicting 50 years away than most "technologists"/"futurists" would today.
Well, it's rather simple to see the future when you're the founder of psychohistory. Duh.

And since a moon day is 29 days, I suppose that means they won't be back up and running until the sun rises at that site in around 14 days.

Whom is an endangered species. I have a feeling it will be considered archaic within a hundred years.
What if, by their judgement, I'm a bad driver, and my insurance goes up. Doesn't sounds like such a good deal then.
I've always considered a BB gun an air rifle. So have all my friends and family.
historians in the future will have very little to base their research on about our age
They'll base their research on what they've always based it on: The "official" records of the victors.

That's amazing! I got the same combination on my luggage.
The generals wanted Ender to kill the queen(s?). This would have killed all the formics, and the generals knew this.

What is the classical music in that video starting at :58? I love that piece.
