Right, but how many of those scalped PS3 were actually sold vs returned for the restocking fee?

I can still walk into my local chain electronics store and find 360's (granted they have been out for a while) PS3's (didn't check if core or full systems) laying around all over the place, and have been able to do so for the last 3-4 months without any difficulty. To date I have only seen Wii's still in stock once.

the newer iPods use very aggressive dynamic downclocking of the playback CPU, and cannot handle the sudden bitrate boosts in some LAME files.

This is lacking support for the mp3 Constant Bitrate format Wikipedia/MP3 Wikipedia/Constant_bitrate

Although the VBR format is arguably better than the CBR format please don't try and incorrectly blanket all aspects of a format.

When I first heard about Vista/Longhorn it seemed like it would be good. Usable userlevel accounts, video driver handling that wouldn't BSOD the whole system if they faulted. Since then, its just become the reason I format my systems and re-install from scratch to avoid the bloat ware. Its backwards compat leaves something to be desired, IE7 doesn't even show to be much better than 6, breaking things like SSL (at least at first) blackboard which is essential to some classes at many Universities is unacceptable for students. From when I was using the beta's the UI has become so overly bloated, not that it needs to be simplified like gnome to nothingness, it needed a lot of cleaning up and organization. I'm sure that there is some use for the widgets, I couldn't find any. Hell I couldn't even auth into the schools network so that I could even attempt to make use of the system, might have been fixed now.

Plug and play for "arbitrary devices" is still pretty weak in GNU/linux at this point. It's not surprising: the gadgets have been built with the intention that they work right out of the box with Windows.
Parents just bought an HP7210 Printer/Scanner/Fax.
Had to spend nearly an hour with the install disc on the windows computers to install it so that printing works.
My Laptop with Ubuntu: Installed HPLIP (HP Linux and Imaging System) and Xsane configured and running with printing and scanning in around 10. Nearly all devices for windows that are more than an over glorified memory device need their custom software and a reboot to install.

If I yank the CD-drive from my laptop while running GNU/linux, it locks completely.
Why your yanking out drives on a running computer is beyond me, but if you mean the CD itself it will either keep it (mounted), or let you take it out hassle free

I can't plug in ethernet after having turned the computer on, rather I have to boot with it plugged in.
Works fine for me with both wireless and wired

1st person shooters are totally out of the question
Last FPS I played for a non-console was UT2K4 and that had a Linux installer on disc.
As for the drive issues at least I can get drivers for my laptop from the repositories, Windows does have them on their update site and I cannot get them from the manufacturer out of warranty, rendering the thing a brick if it wasn't already one when I got it (dead harddrive on arrival, but thats another story)
