    .NET itself isn't some kind of add-on to Windows, recent versions of Windows include it by default, and i believe the XP service packs do too.

    What's so different between querying the .NET Framework version through this add-on and doing so through the Silverlight addon?

    That's required if you want to watch porn over the cable, it's sorta like how you have to magnetize a screwdriver with a magnet if you want screws to stick to it.

    I'm not sure if you've noticed, but the situation you just described happens to real macs too. Every time they release a new machine or refresh one of the lines, something doesn't work. Lines across the screen, video chips that separate from the mainboard, random freezes, etc.

    They haven't been able to make a legitimate "we build the whole thing so it's stable" argument in a long time, if they ever could.

    The premium edition 3 year olds have been able to stack fine China for a while now, it just requires a plug-in for stability and hand-eye coordination.

    If we're talking about package security, there is already signing of the packages themselves.

    Getting them from a different source shouldn't matter as long as the signing method is secure, and i believe with deb it is GPG so, yea.

    What isn't mentioned here but has been mentioned in the past, Stallman doesn't want you to use these sorts of web services at all. I'm not sure what his answer is though.
