What _would_ be interesting is if the RIAA sued in a case where _nobody_ was doing any illegal file sharing. But so far, out of 382 lawsuits, I haven't heard of any case where that's being claimed.
People with dialup who want to keep their only phone line free for incoming calls.
That's what mobile phones are for!
Seriously though, I'm not "us who have broadband", I'm "them who have dialup", but with two mobile phones in the house and 160 hours of connection time each month I don't compose stuff off-line, mostly because I want to reply in a timely fashion.
Check for old versions of EasyCD and Windows XP Service Pack 1. That combination all but cripples a PC.
As an aside, I installed Veritas' CD/DVD burning software (or possibly the packet writer software) that came with the company's new Sony USB2/Fireware DVD rewriter and st one point in the installation it said that it had to disable the built-in XP burning software, was that okay? Hell yes! Nicest thing a program has ever offered to do.
In the previous discussion about Ironport I asked about its reputation and whether or not I needed to start looking for a new email address, given that I'm a user of Spamcop. I will start moving everything away from Spamcop today.
I think that an email with a bunch of addresses in the CC: line is just one email. The more valid example is of people that compose off-line then send messages in a big burst. Except that local phone calls are a fixed price in Australia, so who still does this?
I hope there are some other triggers for this system, for example: Sending more than 20 email in 10 minutes The first time you log on to a new account would probably be more suspicious.
(Also, I think the comparison to/.'s two minute wait before posting is a very valid one.)
Actually, it's a very bad idea. If there are people that value these books so highly, they're probably exactly the sort of thing the libraries should be holding on to. That libraries have to sell off their reason for being just to make ends meet is an indicator that the communities values aren't quite right.
I think you'll find I did. First I stated that I'd obtain a particular entertainment technology when it was included in a video game console, then I stated that's how come I have a DVD player. It was going to be either a PS2 or an Xbox. I even used the future tense in the first statement, more or less ruling out that I have any digital TV tuner at the moment.
I so almost included a bit about dupes, but I was concerned that I was squaring things so rapidly that every/. story would be a Moore's Law dupe by the end of the year.
Free to air sucks so badly in Australia that I barely watch it at all anymore. I've been borrowing and buying Futurama recently and I've been buying Andromeda for a while now. I've just got hooked on two really decent video games and I've got a swag of books, DVDs, CDs and magazines on their way.
If free to air stopped broadcasting this minute, It'd take me days, possibly weeks to notice on my own. Were I a "television executive", I'd be moving into a new business model pretty damn rapidly.
Kris_J's corollary: The frequency of stories on Slashdot about the end of Moore's Law will double every 18 months, as will the number of posts attached to each story that call for an end to said coverage.
Some of the other auctions include some funky mods for video game consoles. The "Skeleton" Saturn is pretty sweet -- translucent case, lights and cut away shielding.
Get one now. I bought a TRGpro back in the days of the Palm III and never felt like I had compromised by buying a fringe PalmOS product. I was only disappointed years later when they never wrote Bluetooth drivers for it, but no Palm from that era ever got BT support.
My rendering of that page tends to indicate support from about 90% of the/. population, with such quotes as "This device rocks, I expect them to sell plenty." high on the page. Given that it's still dynamic and I've put a lot of time into nuking trolls in the way I score posts, I'm thinking your views have been affected by a vocal minority.
A standard electric blow heater on high uses 2400W of power, at least here in Australia it does. That's 10A at 240V. That's what every standard wall outlet is rated to in Australia. Every peice of AV, computer and video game equipment I have, together, would be pushed to add up to 2400W. Sure, power boards can be annoying and messy, but you're not going to be knocking anything out just by using your CD burner.
Worry about morons using two heaters off the same power board first.
These government sponsored private taxes where your money goes to some unaccountable organisation are disgusting. In a capitalist society money is power, and these companies are taking your right to decide where your money goes from you. It is does is create monopolies and screw over everyone not running said monopoly. You all know that the money that's creamed off the ISPs/blank media is fed straight back into the pockets of the politicians who created these outragious laws. Any politician that votes for a bill like this, or indeed does nothing to try and revoke an existing one, should be ashamed of themselves.
It really is ugly. Now, if someone had manufactured a replacement Xbox case that was completely clear, that *might* be interesting. If www.thebestcasescenario.com did an Xbox mod I'm *sure* it would be interesting.

My mother's laptop has survived a duck climbing all over it, didn't even scratch the screen -- maybe it's a witch.

I'll get a digital TV tuner when one is bundled in a video game console that I want. That's why I have a DVD player.

I've got Frodo on my N-Gage, but now that MAME has also been released for it I don't see myself playing it as much as I might like.

I've noticed that. When I'm using an N-Gage people assume it's a gaming device and are surprised when you tell them it's a mobile phone.
