Does anyone know if 3.0 was the same way as 4.0? I'm not seeing any real info on a quick Google search. To me, the rollout of 3.0 should set the expectations for 4.0.

The KDE people aren't the Gnome people who do consistent incremental releases every 6 months. They are also not google which insist just about everything they release is beta and forever stays that way. They are also not Microsoft which claims its products are bug free and ready for the masses when they are not. They are the KDE folks. Adjust your expectations accordingly.

I agree with you. But AAC support is going up. It should be becoming less of an issue and when popular formats start changing hands, it's the perfect time for a new disruptive format to come in.

Ogg's biggest problems is that people don't know it exists. Not that it is a bad or good format/container.

A habit of mine from the Mac OS 9 days:

A majority of the time, hold the option key when switching apps. It will hide the previous app as you switch to the next one. When you want to bring it up again, ctrl-tab to it or click it in the Dock. When you specifically want to leave an app open to do some cross app dragging, make sure to not hold the option key. It's a good way to keep 50+ windows from floating around...

Of course, this requires a lack of fear of using the keyboard in tandem with the mouse. Ctrl-click haters should probably stay away. ;-)

Python is usually thought of as a scripting language because you can run the scripts with "python hello_world.py" like every other scripting language out there. Scripting languages being compiled during runtime into native code is starting to become the rule and not the exception.

The biggest problem I personally have with dvorak is that most key-bindings are set for the best placement on a qwerty keyboard. Though Mac OS X has an interesting Dvorak command qwerty layout.

However I can't think of a better way to play Diablo or some other hack&slash than with a wiimote that carefully translates your actions into sword movements. THAT would be awesome! Does it even have enough precision by the way?

Not likely or at least not easily. But Wii-motion plus should hopefully fix things. From what I have seen, the motion controls on the wiimote aren't that amazing, but the pointer controls work really well.
