prevent the IRS from recovering applications during an emergency
And what praytell is considered an IRS Emergency? In my world, an emergency is something that requires medical assistance, police or rescue to be involved.
If by emergency, they mean "someone has deleted the files", isn't that what automated backups are for? I don't care what software you are using, a proficient IT department, given the proper resources (tape drive auto system, etc) can recover ANYTHING!
They are asserting that congress does not have the authority to give the executive branch the power to prevent the judiciary from deciding upon the legality of the role that telecom companies had in the warrantless surveillance program.
Isn't a clarification usually supposed to be shorter than the original?
You've got a very good point. Anyone who's seen "Saving Private Ryan" can tell you that a few well organized people with a few guns and a little ingenuity can take out even a moderately sized army with tanks.
As for missiles, etc. Most of those are computer based, and with the number of government, military computer security articles coming up lately, those won't be much of a problem if the right people get pissed off;)
I've tried installing this a couple times on an N810 (last week) and both times it completely messed up xulrunner. Couldn't remove it, update it, reinstall it, nothin'. If you are planning on testing it on an N810, make sure you are prepared to backup and flash if necessary (I was still able to use the device after xulrunner died, but my other browser, microb stopped working).
Did you not even RTFS? They mention that this is applicable to companies who deal with peoples' personal information. If you run a one-man company that handles personal information and can't afford to implement even basic encryption and security systems, I would classify you in the same department and one-man machining companies that don't implement basic safety procedures!
If your company can't handle the requirements for handling personal information, then you shouldn't be handling personal information. Period.
Umm, did comcast take a shit-kicking for simply injecting false packets into p2p streams? I can't even imagine what would happen if they started impersonating their CUSTOMERS!
Sure, if you only want your devices to talk to each other. But as soon as your computer tries to access the ipv6 internet using an ipv4 address, you have some serious work to do. On the simplest scale, your router would need to convert all ipv6 dns addresses to "virtual" ipv4 addresses, then work as a translator. That however does not ever TOUCH protocol changes, encryption schemes, etc, only the address itself.
In theory, you could hook up a token ring server behind a nat firewall with ipv4 on the other side (i believe banks still do this), but good luck having the two sides of the firewall talk to each other!
Do the words open source mean anything to you? Or the fact that you an pick up pretty much ANY other distro and move your stuff over? If ubuntu died (including it's parent debian), I can simply format my main driver, install something else (fedora, dsl, etc), point/home to my secondary partition and BOOM, back up and running in about an hour!
Try doing that with a web technology that no longer supports your O.S. due to the KERNEL!
I am running a 64 bit version of ubuntu and while flash does work, it is ABYSMAL! I'm constantly switching between flashplugin-nonfree and gnash. One has no fullscreen and the other crashes on a regular basis.
I for one believe flash to be the worst thing to EVER happen to the internet. ANYTHING that can be done with flash can be done using embed tags, css and javascript. The fact that I have to load a flash plugin just to watch a freaking video when there is a perfectly good, yet unused, embed tag is mind boggling!
Over the years I have learned to live with flash videos, but if I come across a website where all I see is a giant white box with a small play button (I have flashblock), i hit the close button.
If they are working on something of that caliber, they should not be using ANY kind of unencrypted email system whether internal or otherwise. They should at the VERY least be encrypting their emails point to point which is very easy to set up on just about ANY email client.
What's to stop a commercial vendor from putting evil code in?
What Gives you thAt idea?
Umm, garnishing your wages does not mean the take everything...they simply take a percentage. Just think of it as a second income-tax :p
Buddy, I know you love the daisy chain and everything, but your description sounds like half of a high speed token ring!
This is slashdot, are you TRYING to start a flame war here?

Don't forget microb (mozilla build for maemo).
Why does something need to see to only work at night? Never heard of a clock huh...
What if a company thinks or claims there's a better way, and encryption isn't needed?
There, fixed that for you.

Sir, would you step away from the internet please?
I'd love to see them scan my ID card without telling me...
Wow. "Shit the door". Well, I stand back from that. It sure has been a while.

the whole place could be turned into a blackened crater in the space of a few hours.
Ha! You should see what the ARMY would do!
You've never been a grad student have you?
