Usually if a company decides to rewrite a program from the ground up (see: Adobe from time to time), the rewritten version is less featureful, less stable, and takes much longer to come out than the previous version.
Please mention that to the folks who are dropping KDE 4.
But to be honest, since most people don't put their baby's umbilical cord cells in a bank, most research will focus on cures where those are not required, because there's more potential to save lives.
I only wish that were true. However, those who do bank the cells have _money_, which is what the drug companies want, not _cures_. Saving lives is nice and fuzzy and all that, but selling to people with _money_ is a lot more appealing to drug corporations.
"Conflict of Interest" is not a criminal offense. You might have a civil case for fraud, but I doubt seriously if any criminal charges would ever be filed, let alone upheld in a court.
Alright, I'll bite. As a consumer, how can I start suing them?
Give it a spin... For those interested in getting packages to test and contribute, several distributions have notified us that they will have KDE 4.0 packages available at or soon after the release.
Also, the download page had two versions clearly marked at the time: KDE 3.5: For most end users KDE 4.0: For early adopters
I did not know that EEE was a term that had originated in MS itself! I thought that it was a term invented by the anti-MS crowd to describe exactly what MS does.
Again, thanks! I hope that the mods come around and make sure that you post is properly noticed.
So, where is the bugzilla bug so that this information can be added? Seriously, do you think that Aaron Siego trolls slashdot looking for bugs to fix? No, he trolls _bugzilla_ looking for bugs to fix. File it here: https://bugs.kde.org/wizard.cgi
Portability was one of the goals of KDE4, and it is encouraging to see it works.
Now if only the other parts of it would stop sucking...
Today's Daily KDE4 WTF: My clock has two lines. The first line is the time, in military time -- 08:31. This works fine. The second line is the date: Tue, 27 Jan. It might be 27 January, but I can't tell, because the T and half the u in Tue, and most of the n in Jan, are cut off.
I realize it's meant to be scalable, but why is it scalable right off the edges of the widget? And in a widget which is in the panel, by default?
Just one of many KDE4 WTFs which makes you wonder, "Forget QA, did anyone actually fucking boot it up to see if it was working?"
Please post a link to the bug report that you filed so that I can help triage it. Thanks.
Thanks. I am not running on fresh profiles, so this may have changed the outcome a bit. This is what I got:
Opera 9.63: Popup in new tab, takes focus. I cannot see the original tab. Firefox 3.0.5: Popup in new tab, in background. To see the popup I must click the new tab. Konqueror 3.5.10: Popup in new window, takes focus. I can see the original window below.
But I do see your point, and I was unaware of the distinction. In Opera one can tile the tabs / MDI's.
Thanks. I really can't find the part that you reference, though. It's not in the deep lawyer-speak that I was expecting, but I still find it difficult to find reference that MS intended to cripple the web.
I would just like to know if this is one of those myths, or if there is truth behind it.

i searched for "site:google.com -google" and got "Britney spears big tits" as the 5th match.
Nice try, getting all of slashdot to DDoS Google just when they are showing signs of weakness.
How many betas does a service pack need?
If anyone has any doubt that Windows 7 is just Vista rebranded, read here:
http://dotancohen.com/eng/windows_7_vista.html
Snideness aside, you know that things need a catchy term.
The plane in question is called the "vomit comet", catchy enough for NASA?
Umh, have you seen the US' attitude in space?
Yes, but they soon won't be able to get there anymore.
Failure in security.dll. Abort, retry or ignore?
Of course, being how the Surface doesn't have a text interface, they would implement that in pictures some how. See here:
http://what-is-what.com/what_is/microsoft_surface.html
They hate because the U.S. government is an obnoxious self-righteous bully that still acts like it owns the damned planet.
To be fair, the US only acts like it owns the bioshpere.
...invented by a man named Fish.
...human.pet...
Did anyone else try clicking on that?
They already have a tool for that. It's called a Linux Live CD.
Details, please!
That's not a conflict of interest. That is a display of interest.

It's because microbial cells are much smaller then eukaryote cells. Imagine a bunch of basket balls surrounded by BBs.
By mass its probably about two pounds.
I see, thanks. I didn't even think of that possibility.

The reviews are clearly labeled "user" reviews, as you mention, not CEO reviews and not employee reviews.

Something doesn't make sense:
There are ten times more bacterial cells in our body than our own cells. Most of them are located in our guts
That means that over 50% of 90% of our body mass in in our guts? Well, the researchers are Americans...
No, prosecuted. That is conflict of interest.
My comment was relevant to the comment that I was replying to. Take it up with wiredog.
Wow, thanks!

I can do this all day.
Please do. But not on slashdot. Do it here:
https://bugs.kde.org/wizard.cgi
Sorry for turning /. into a kde trac btw.
