You are right, the idea of paying for it with ads should not be patentable.
However, I don't see a problem with patenting a specific way of presenting the ads as long as it is specific. This way, if a competitor came up with a different, (hopefully better) way, they could still use it.
You arn't taking it far enough. To be fair, we would even have to count the older versions of each distro. After all, if NT 3, 4, 6, and 5.1 are different, then SuSe..., 8, 8.1, 8.2, 9, 9.1, and 10 must be differnt too. Each used a differnt kernel. So how many OSs is that *nix lump counting now?
Does it matter if it was moved? People carry around laptops, cameras, and portable dvd players all the time without scratching disks. Don't forget going over bumpy roads listining to a CD in a car. It obviously isn't too hard to make a player that can be moved without scratching. It's been done for years.
Have you seen today's technic pieces? They took the bumps off of them! You can't stack them any more. That make a lot of things you used to be able to do nearly impossible.
They should probably watch out for a lawsuit. Sounds to me like they have reverse engineered the music industry's system for making songs. Last I heard, that kind of thing is illegal.
Why should his viewers HAVE to install extra software just to get his site to look nice, when most other sites work fine?
They shouldn't. Microsoft should fix it and release the fix with the rest of the updates on tuesday. Then the users won't see this message any more. If every website had a similar message, Microsoft might get tired of hearing about it from their users (or the PC makers that are more likely to get the phone call) and fix the problem.
As long as web developers are willing to bend over backwards for MS, why should MS take the time to fix something that is more than likely helping them hold their dominance at the moment?
Ok, I agree with you about all the flashy stuff, but I think you underestimate the power of low latency ram. My machine is a P4 3.0gz HT with a Gig of standard PC3200 (512 for each chanel). My bother's machine is an early AMD64 2800+ish socket 700 whataver (sorry, don't know the specifics) with 512 MB of low latency ram (223 or something similar). Except for the ram, I would expect us to be an reletively eaven footing. Some differece sure, but not a lot. However, his install of Gentoo from stage 1 took half the time mine did. GCC does almost all of it's work in ram, rarely hitting the harddrive. Just my own experiance, but the ram does make a difference.
How would they know you changed location if they didn't keep your previous location to compair it to. Wouldn't they have to keep personal information for at least a little while? What is to stop them from saving this data in the future? I'm not all that concerned, but it is something that should be considered.
I think the difference comes from what these companies do with the data they gather. As far as I know, Google does not sell the information that they are collecting, while the others do. I am making the choice to let google track me. I am not given a choice about who Doubleclick sells my entries in their database to.
But they arn't using it for free. The customer is paying for the use of the line. It looks to me like they are trying to charge twice for the same thing. If the current prices of bandwidth are not covering costs, rase them or cut costs. There is no need to target individual uses [sic].
Didn't work. Just stuck my phone into 2 such bags (nested), and I might have lost one bar on my 3 bar signal. Also, my Bluetooth headset worked through the bags. I always figured it would work, but I guess not.
Why do we still have profile directories? They were nice back in the day with Netscape, but now each user of a computer has their own user. What good is that random user directory when there is only one of them? Why not give the option during instalation to not install that "feature"?
Doesn't it prompt you that you have multiple tabs? If not, turn the feature back on or get a current version. But you are right, it would be neat if there was a something you could change in about:config that would do what you are asking.
I like the idea of going back to the 2d design style for a lot of games, but I would like them rendered in 3d. My usual example is Zelda. I loved the original zelda games (except 2), but the new 3d ones suck. If they would go back to the standard top down view, but take advantage of 3d graphics to make it look beter, I would be happy. Surely I'm not the only one?
In case you want to see what she looks like...
Google Image search for Window Snyder.
She looks kinda young.
I wish they were all that simple.

Simple, put the studs back on the technic parts. Why did they take them off in the first place?
Can't I just plug my old VHS machine into the converter box's analog output and tape shows to my heart's content?
Yes, but it will be lower quality, not the fancy Digital and/or HD. That is what they seem to be conserned with.

OMG don't move it! Just like the player in your car. You don't drive with the cd player playing do you?
Stop defending them, the product is flawed. This should not be possible.

Never had a problem with moving my laptop around with a spinning disk in it.
You mean like SlashCode?
Don't be chicken, be the egg.
For the record, the egg came first.
*shrug* I don't know
Mine doesn't say anything about Deer Park...

I'm betting that it also doesn't count all of the installs from verious Linux venders. Auto-updated Redhat, gentoo, ...
