    Well... Dubya cut his vacation short because of Katrina.

    Only a disaster of biblical proportions could cause the "Most Rested President in American History" to put the 10-speed away and get back to work.

    Maybe Katrina was God's retribution against red states for voting for President Dumbass.

    You know that's what Falwell, Robertson, et al would be saying if this disaster hit Boston and the New England area instead.

    Only those guys would find a way to blame it on homosexual marriage.

    Wonder if the good ol' boys in Mississippi and Louisiana are still in favor of limited government now.

    Well... at least he finally had a reason to end his vacation sooner than expected.


    The most-rested President in the history of the country wouldn't be shaken from his month off by anything short of a biblical-sized disaster in a red state.


    Maybe Katrina was God's way of saying, "get back to work, George."


    If I was the anti-Falwell or anti-Robertson, I might say that Katrina was God's retribution against the red states for voting for President Dumbass.

    I bet lots of people in the red states of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama aren't so much in favor of smaller government anymore.

    If Katrina had hit Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New York ... Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson would be calling it God's retribution for the inhabitants' wickedness.

    Where are the bands like that today? They don't exist. They can't in today's environment. So, while the members of Rush are currently in the early stages of their "30th Anniversary Tour", and the members of ELP and Yes are doing god-knows-what - progressive music that is complex and involves musical TALENT is dying.


    Man, how I long for the non-4/4-time, lyrics-that-make-you-think music of bands such as you mentioned. But the only way we get that anymore is in remastered box sets.... nothing new.

    In 2000, nearly 95000 people in Florida voted for Ralph Nader.

    Exit polling showed that roughly 40% said they would have voted for Gore if Nader wasn't on the ballot. 20% said they would have voted for Bush. 40% said they wouldn't have voted at all.

    Bush won Florida by less than 600 votes.

    Without Nader on the ballot, Gore wins Florida.

    Facts are facts..... You have a right to your own opinion, but you don't have a right to your own facts. Whatever their reasons for doing so, the people of Florida who voted for Nader gave the election to Bush.

Not just the "evil rupublicans." The Demokrats are more apt to abuse this crap than stupid Bush will. Can anyone say Waco? Ruby Ridge?

    Ruby Ridge occured in April of 1992... When GHW Bush was President.... 8 months before Clinton was sworn is as President.

    Look.... use common sense people.

    If the use of electronic devices on airplanes had even the SLIGHTEST possible risk of interference with the cockpit equipment, then the FAA and/or airlines would have banned their use by now!

    The FAA has banned bringing pen knives on board, for chrissakes, because of the small chance they might be used by terrorists. If playing with a PDA on a plane was even 1/10 as risky, you think they would keep on allowing it?

    There are so many multi-million dollar lawsuits that would come from this if it were truly a threat, that the airlines (an already shaky business segment) would not permit their usage - even if the FAA didn't ban it.

    C'mon... the slashdot crowd is supposed to be smarter than that. This is sensationalism by the media an,d at best, an urban legend. If it was dangerous, it would already be banned... it's not like using these things on planes is a new phenomenon. It took the FAA less than a month after 9/11 to ban toe nail clippers on planes... People have been using laptops on planes for more than a decade.

    Get real, folks...

    Well, Bush "got rich quick" back when he cashed in his share of the Texas Rangers and collected on the profit that was generated by having the local government build his team a $300 million stadium. So he has no need for that.

    Also, we know that Bush frequently got high illegally in his youth. Even led to a DUI charge.

    As far as an enlarged penis? He's already 5'10" tall... how much taller should he grow?

    President Clinton's job approval rating was 68% on the day he was impeached. It is misleading to say "you are a group of people who thought that a president who nailed his intern with cigars should be impeached".

    2/3 of the population in this country disagreed with the impeachment.

    The Jimmy Carter is a Seawolf-class submarine, not a carrier.

    the point still stands... they name things after living Presidents as well as dead ones.

    Jimmy Carter, incidentally, served in the nuclear Navy when he was younger.

    Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, and now Dubya ALL avoided military service in one way or the other.

    Reagan was 4-F during WWII, Clinton got a college deferment, and Bush joined the Air National Guard (and was subsequently AWOL for a year when he was supposed to be serving in the Alabama ANG....a very under-reported story - especially on Fox News (go figure) ).

    I think in order to have a naval ship named after you, you had to have served in the military.... and not dodged it like Clinton and Dubya.

    The previously commissioned Nimitz class carrier before this one was the USS Jimmy Carter. That's right "Jimmy", not "James".

    As someone who works in the NR (Naval Reactors) program, I take great pride in the launch of a new ship.

    It doesn't matter to me if it is named for a liberal or conservative president, or for a living or dead president.

    As upset as liberals are about this one being named after Reagan, the conservatives were just as upset about the previous one being named after Carter.

    And guess what... I've toured both of them when they were in Newport News being built. They're the same damn ship, with just different names. How ironic is that? The Jimmy Carter and the Ronald Reagan are identical.

    That says A LOT about our country, in my view. Two diametrically opposed politicians share in the same grand legacy of America.

    I think you've been reading the sports headlines too much. The average baseball player makes about $200,000 a year... The avg. career length is about 2-3 years.


    The New York Yankees this season have a combined salary of $130 million. The league average among the 30 teams is about $70 million. There are 25 active players on each team's roster, plus 15 more than can be listed as on the official 40-man roster that is used to determine post-season eligibility.


    Must be the new math, but your average appears to be off by a factor of 10. The average MLB player makes about $2 million.


    Also, considering that the league minimum salary (as of the last collective bargaining agreement) is $250,000.... I'd say your average is completely bogus.
