When did I say compete online? I said drop in and play a few rounds with mates. Besides the fact that many games allow for 4 people playing on the same console so theres no lugging your stuff round a mates house (And no, I'm talking social contact, so internet doesn't count), it seems that xbox games spend a lot more time tiering the players so they compete in games similar to their level i.e. Halo 2. Face it, Counter-strike isn't exactly one of those games that you can just drop into.
And I know its blindingly obvious PC games evolve every day, but price for price the console has better graphics and a longer shelf life, I've still to see something on the PC that beats Gears of War visually. For something like that out of a PC you'd have to be spending >£200 on just a graphics card.
Note the USB ports on the front of an xbox 360. While I'm not sure about mice I know for certain that you can plug in a keyboard and type messages over xbox live to one another. I suppose its up to the developers to support these forms of input (If they are allowed to).
Anyway, I keep hearing this same argument about how "PC games will blow away console games" but to be fair I don't think either PC gaming OR console gaming are going anywhere fast. Personally I prefer console gaming as of late, Gears of War is in my mind simply one of the best shooters I've ever played, probably on par with HL/HL2, but obviously the PC cannot be beaten for RTS titles and "proper" shooters like counter-strike where every twich matters.
But on this point, a lot of people, especially casual gamers, don't want games where you have to spend hours getting good, and sometimes, nor do I. This is where Halo and other console games become so much better for having a group of mates round for just a quick blast.
Anyway, just my $0.02
Yeah but the nice thing about WACOMs is that you can stick a piece of paper over the top of the tablet and regain all that lovely texture all for about $0.005.
Yeah!
This one isn't a dupe, isn't cussing microsoft, doesn't mention open source and has no reference to apple!
I'm dissapointed. Those standards are slipping boys!
"Want to see fair use? Try buying an Apple computer without OS X on it."
I also can't buy a Nokia phone without the Nokia OS in it. Oh the humanity! And why would you want to get a Mac without OS X? What would you gain from that that you couldn't gain from simply buying the computer and erasing the HD? And what does your question have to do with "fair use"? You are not in any shape or form prevented from running some other OS on the Mac. Something to do with the price of OS X being included in the price of the mac itself? I seem to recall seeing severalothertopics (among many others) where, in the discussion, people get VERY uppity about having to pay for windows to be included on their machines.

Oh four pin molex; With your twin ground connections; You're so down to earth.
Would this not be why in the UK a colour television license still costs more than a black & white TV license?
Did they bump up the prices to pay for the upgrades?
To be fair, I don't think theres a single case where police have actually prosecuted where there is a legit reason to use a device such as this. (If there is evidence against, I would be interested to read it, however.) It's one of those odd laws that were made too general to begin with, and as technology has evolved, its become sort of anulled.
Besides, the title of this post is wrong anyway, it's not "legal" to use them already, it's legal from the 8th of December. And Ofcom had more of a part to play than the Lib Dems.
Surely that is only in the engine field though? Only a part of a games development team?
As a CS student, I am annoyed about having not taken computer graphics as part of my course (I thought I couldn't, turns out I could have (misinformed), stuck doing Systems Analysis instead) as I do want to learn that side too, but am relegated to learning it in my own time, so I'd like to add to this question:
firstly:
Are there any resources (sites, books etc.) that people can *really* recommend to help me learn more game specific stuff?
and secondly:
As a competent C++/Java programmer, how would I best demonstrate knowledge, and gain an edge in the games dev field. Especially in subjects such as 3d, where I'm not able to provide a grade? Write a small game ground up by myself/as part of a team? Make a mod? Is there anything in particular I can do that might help bump my CV up to the "interview" pile?
- Any help is appreciated, as I understand that this industry is a tough nut to crack.
I have lived there, and by and large, this system works well because they publicise the laws so much.
Spraypainting a wall is vandalism if whoever owns that wall does not want it there.
If you want to avoid the punishment, I'd say it's fairly easy not to do the crime. I've never spraypainted anyones wall by accident anyway. If spraypainting is your thing, buy some canvas, or spraypaint your own house, at least then its you paying for your hobby, not somebody else having to pay to have it removed.
The punishment for gum, though extreme, is also easily work aroundable. Don't chew gum. They make it even easier for you, as most places don't sell it. And I bet you can't visit without seeing a no-gum sign clearly visible throughout the country.
Unfortunately, FM broadcasting is currently a bit of a grey area that Microsoft themselves may not want to wade into. Some laws are really out of date.
Is broadcasing over 1 metre really harming the music industry? Uuuh, all evidence points towards: No.

Argh, so maybe the summary is not wrong, but the title is misleading, blame my early critisism on the Jack Daniels.

Mod parent up! It's the first comment to have actually looked into it as opposed to just "debunking".
