I agree completely. Part of the reason I'd like a GUI is because sometimes I'll go for months without having to change a thing in Apache, then I'll come back and have to remember some directive. After that I'll have to set some overrides so that this directive will actually do something. Every time I look it up in the documentation, the www.apache.org site has changed and I vow to actually save the documentation in a place I can remember next time.

Sure a text file is easier if you're using the stuff frequently and can remember the terms, but a GUI is nice to just pop in, twiddle one setting and pop out.

The deal here isn't that the owners of the buildings aren't getting paid for advertising.

The issue is that their buildings are being used as the basis of some artwork and then being altered so they appear to be hawking something they don't normally advertise.

Its legal to take pictures of Michael Jordan as he walks down the street. Turn this into a movie and you're probably still ok because he's a public figure.

Taking pictures of Michael Jordan drinking a soda, then changing the brand from Coke to Pepsi because they pay you isn't going to fly too far.

If they wanted to have different ads in Times Square, then they could use those same computers to make new buildings. But they don't, they want to film those specific buildings and they want those buildings to say something different. Well, those buildings don't have different signs on them unless you pay to have the signs changed.

Leave the buildings out, or leave the signs the signs unchanged. At least that's how I see it. Its really not a matter of the buildings being filmed without permission.

Too many episodes of Trek end with some new scientific discovery. Sorry, but I can't sit in suspense just to have it explained to me near the end of the show how they've solved their problem by advancing from one made up technology to another.

There is little difference between "using the force" and implementing the wildest theoretical physics and guessing at a way to jump through space. Trek wraps it up in scientific terms while Wars doesn't worry about that and just makes some characters more powerful than others.

As for episode 1, it actually went against the grain of the previous ones. In all the previous episodes, Luke was a superhero. In episode one, nobody ever shot anything else on purpose. The space station was shot down on accident, Jarjar blew up something on accident, and Darth Maul didn't lose the light saber fight he just forgot he was fighting it (wtf?!)

Yea, Star Wars might not be real peaceful but I'll take Luke blowing up the bad guys over a few dorks in spandex trying to overload the circuits by humming Bolero into the microphone while the Borg listen.

I think its just a matter of whiny customers using the law.

Microsoft gains a certain value when Windows is shipped on all computers. Because of this they are willing to sell it per computer for less than they would otherwise. These computer companies are not being "penalized" for not shipping it on every computer, they are paying more when they install different OS's piecemeal.

Its not racketeering because (even if they are guilty of something) its a monopoly using its monopoly power to extend the monopoly. Being a monopoly in the first place isn't a crime, so there is only one crime here.

I went to the car dealership the other day. All the tires were by the same manufacturer. This is not quite a good analogy because most car companies use more than one source of parts so that just this sort of things doesn't happen. Computer companies reaped the benefits of a homogenous operating system.

Maybe they should be let out of the contract and be allowed to pay full retail on every copy of windows. Hmm...they don't actually want that option do they?
