    Why exactly do you find that the given benchmarks are not useful? Do you think that we should care about how the chip could possibly perform in a scenario that accounts for a tiny proportion of all real use(your 64-bit suggestion) or that perhaps we should care about the use that these chips will see the vast majority of the time(32-bit apps on a 32-bit OS)?

    I think somehow that the latter is more useful.

    The review mentions this on the last page anyway. I too would be more interested in these low power chips. The ultra low power X2 would have to be the most interesting proposition for a home server... 35 Watts or something?

    Cooling is not related to temperature, it is related to the amount of heat being created by the chip which is roughly equal to the amount of power being drawn by the chip.
    Heat != Temperature. Schools really need to start teaching people something.

    You're thinking of the temperature they're running at, not the amount of heat they're putting out. The maximum clockspeed the processor can manage with some stability is dictated by it's temperature. Intel are saying that if you keep the chip at that temperature it will run happily at that frequency. I think the 5.something GHz power consumption was something like 250 Watts, now for that you better have either some very very serious air cooling or else water/peltier etc.

    Anything above the absolute bottom of the barrel will run Aero just fine. Something like an integrated Gefore 6100, 6150, 6200, 7300TC or a radeon X200M or X1150. Those cards will barely sip a couple of watts more than the lowest end intel integrated graphics chip. Troll. This article wasnt about Vista

    Well there would be the standard 5700 which is a step up. Then the 5800, the 5800XT the 5900LE, the 5900 and the 5900XT. They're all the same architecture and all faster. 5700LE - x700 implies middle of the road for the 5xxx series. LE implies crippled with thalf the pipelines of a non-LE.

    Nice work Anonymous Coward, two small problems. You've obviously never heard of the "dual layer DVD", something which has been in common use for a very long time. It has 8.5GB storage capacity. You've also obviously managed to avoid every single article, of the hundreds out there, which all point out 1 thing. The cell does not have 8 cores. It has 1 core and 7 SPEs. The Xbox 360 on the other hand has 3 cores. I take it you're looking forward to your "real time rendered, Toy-story quality graphics" on your PS3 just like you were when the PS2 came out? Get off my internet.

    How did you decide that only IE is vulnerable to the "risky" results that one might find by following these links ? Plenty of these sites will be camouflaged as "free screen savers" "free virus scanners" or "free music downloads". IE won't save people from being stupid and downloading software install packages from untrustworthy sources.

    Could anyone explain to me why Skype is so popular ? Is it simply a case of they marketed the best and had the easiest to use software ? They certainly aren't any good when it comes to following standards (SIP). Their voice quality is certainly much worse than a good SIP connection, or MSN, or Ventrilo and it's probably even worse than Teamspeak. There's amazingly high latency in most Skype calls I've ever tried. So tell me, why is it so damn popular ?

    Maybe it is underclocking it, but the GPU sees the reduction in temperature and lowers the fan speed accordingly ? I would suggest finding an extremely GPU-bound benchmark and running it before and after your underclock attempt to try and make sure.

    God forbid they actually do some *research* and *invent* something *useful* ? How can you say that it wouldn't be great for them to have a network of satellites that watch the globe for this activity tirelessly day and night, rather than having some poor tired geologists staring at seismometeres ? I'm sure you're against educating people in the third world because other people are starving etc. Please think about things a little bit before you call them a waste of money.
