Unlikely. More likely the chip's circuitry doesn't allow for an elegant fix that can be cranked out in mere weeks and the'd rather be selling new designs than fix up old ones.
My old tomtom worked fine when I stuck it to a passenger window of a 737 and showed me we were going around 900km/h. It didn't take much longer to find the satelites. (but I had to delete any routes and turn off the speed camera warnings, cause it couldn't keep up with that)
And cook the food and shop for the food, and wash clothes and make the beds, and mop the floors and hoover, and organize the toys, and do the taxes, pay the bills, go to work, and go to the gym.

I'm also sticking with 17.3 KDE as long as it remains supported. 18.x is just ugly and kdesvn is missing. Only downside of 17.3 is that some packages are getting old such as gcc.
