Perhaps, although misreading the parent didn't make the information in the post less true in any way - and it's information that needs to be posted over and over since there's still lots of people who actually believe Nintendo isn't doing well.
(especially as I think the Nintendo is about to die)
Yeah. Sure. The only company actually making profit after profit after profit on their GAMES hardware and software is about to day.
Really, where do you get all this from? Nintendo is making a killing in the games industry - they're not going anywhere.
Here's an interesting thing to think about. There are more Gamecubes sold worldwide than Xboxes - and yet a LOT (yes, a LOT) of Xboxes are only sold because they can be modded.
In Sweden the Xbox has 31% of the market, the cube has 13% (this is one of the only countries where the difference is that big) - yet the amount of software sold for both platforms is the same. Logic thus tells us that around ~66% of all Xboxes are running pirated games only.
Exactly. It's fascinating to read one day on Slashdot on how the Chicago fire might've been caused by a comet and then seeing the replies to this article where people seem to claim we don't need to worry at all.
Utter bollocks - what "mod" is he talking about? The US/Jap switch? That changes an "offset" deciding which bios in the bios chip to boot from - it does _nothing_ that has to do with the laser.
Anyway. Would you consider "Gamestation Q" to be a great success if Matsushita (a lot richer than Microsoft) took a portable computer, branded it "games console" and sold it at a loss so we could afford it? (It would thus sell quite well - why not - lots of bang for the buck).
I'm not impressed by things that are given away:) The Xbox isn't more impressive than the Gamecube, and the Gamecube is both cheaper and sold with a profit until lately - now it's sold at a "marginal loss".
The Gamecube lags the Xbox by 900k units in the US - that's not much. Worldwide it's outselling the Xbox - and yet a LOT (yes, a LOT) of Xboxes are only sold because they can be modified - something not possible on the Gamecube.
(Don't start with the PSO hack, it's not really usable, and it's a long way from being as simple as an Xbox with a modchip where you can copy a rental game to the harddrive in minutes.. )
All in all, the Xbox as a _games system_ is a failure. As a piracy system, it's doing quite well. As a mediaplayer it rocks - and as an emulator-host it's absolutely superb.
(Note: I own Xbox, Gamecube and PS2. Fanboyism stems from the GC having better games... )
Exactly the same is currently true for Sweden, although our implementation of the EUCD (delayed, will probably go through Jan 1 2005) will "correct" that.
My girlfriend (spare me the usual comments thankyou) just installed this before this even made the news - pure luck I guess. Anyway, she started the Chromi-something shooter game and it's dead slow - have to kill -9 just to get rid of it.
System is a Duron 900, 512Mb RAM and an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro.
If Iraq breaking UN resolutions was reason to invade, there's a truckload better reasons (and resolutions) to invade Israel and install a government with support from the people (you do know that that means getting back behind the agreed borders, stop building the Berlin Wall #2 etc?)
Well.. they saw the Gamecube outsell (world wide) the Xbox, even though a lot of Xboxes only are sold since they can be modified so easily. Microsoft then apparently made the decision to copy whatever Nintendo does for the next generation... (IBM CPU, ATI graphics etc.. )
Get over it - these "anti semite" rantings are boring nowadays. Here's a clue - being against what the racist state of Israel is doing has _nothing_ to do with "anti semitism" - nor with judaism.
The United Nations and Amnesty are the two sources I'd like to point out when it comes to "comparing" the acts performed by Israel and the Palestinians.
Please, by all means, check for yourself.
(Israel is in breach of far more UN resolutions than Iraq ever was... )
Compared to Sweden your state is extremely tightly connected to Christianity. Scientific American used that (and a few other things) to "judge" countries all over the world as being more or less "modern". Sweden was at the top, with the other Nordic countries close behind. The US was lagging _quite_ a bit.
I think you'll find that not all Arabic nations have Islam as state religion. Should I name a few of the well known ones, or do you think you can find that info yourself?
To repeat: There's a lot of anti-Moslem stuff coming out of the US - and then you act surprised when they don't like you back...

Nintendo makes a LOT of money on their games
... that is of course to change. My 8/1 ADSL is about to change into a 13/13 VDSL (yes I'm talking Mbit) soonish.
While Sweden is far ahead of a lot of countries when it comes to "broadband", what you describe is only true for the present.
Watch Europe telling Microsoft to break up XP, then watch how it will only take Bush seconds to MAKE Europeans an endangered species.
(If you mod me as anything but insightful, bookmark this and come back a week or so after March 22)

On the contrary - lots of things during the last 1000 years might be due to "cosmic" events. We have very little (popular) knowledge about quite drastic environmental changes like the "little ice age" or even the years without the sun that might've been the cause for the nickname "dark ages" (also a comet).
Tunguska, 1908.
I tried to google for some numbers, but all I found was The human death toll was small - nothing really concrete.
Freenet (among others) already deal with that, through extensive proxying.
Install it today - you will need it working tomorrow.

No, I'm the one who got IGN to rethink their sexistic remarks in that area [last comment]. I dislike a lot of anime/manga since I consider them quite "pedophilic".

Anyone?
Interesting. You have absolutely no interest in the actual subject at hand - just at word games.
I guess you don't know much about the world.

I am half serious, yes
How the UN works is public knowledge, and something you can find on various websites.
*gasp*

Because nintendo makes games mostly for young kids
If you really believe that, you're missing something. Really.
Nintendos games are often the best, for all ages. I'm 30, and I play lots more on the Gamecube than on the Xbox and PS2 I also have.
I was under the impression that it's not supposed to compete with the PSP - that's the job for the successor to the GBA SP - also in development.
Really? In Sweden we tell the pedestrians _not_ to walk when the traffic lights go green. We don't want them to get run over.
:)
Can't understand how I've survived England, France and Germany before you told me it's supposed to be vice versa
When the traffic lights turn green, the crosswalks get a walk sign.
Sounds dangerous.
