It's rewarding to feign depression when you've appointed yourself, and your political allies, as the 'heroes' who will save the poor deluded masses from themselves.
You have a rather comic-bookish view of the people you disagree with politically.
Really, it's not a good idea to politically oppose a parody of the people you actually are up against. The real thing is much more complex While it might be more personally rewarding to spin up opponents to tackle with in you fantasies, it's politically more rewarding to engage in politics in the real world.
Sometimes when I am on a friend's computer or a back-room system at work or somewhere, the easiest way to 'collect' screenshots is to paste them into WordPad.
I certainly wouldn't do that by choice, but ya gotta do what you've gotta do. And really, the applets in the 'doze are adequate for many purposes if you know how to get around in that environment.
'Paint' used to be much more crippled that it is in XP, though. It used to crop graphics you'd paste into it to whatever the default frame was. Maybe your teacher learned those tricks back with the old crippled Paint.
Anybody who has been on Slashdot long enough knows that the reason UID numbers are emblazoned right up on the top of each comment was because of Bruce Perens' hissy fit when someone with a slightly misspelled copy of his name came on Slashdot and started masquerading as him (in a fashion to mock him, for the most part).
Slashdot became ever so slightly less egalitarian that day, when 'UID cred' became something touted right up on the header of each comment.
Really, though, it isn't 'science' fiction to envision strip mining the landfills. It's prophesy, but not way-out flying saucer stuff.
Any scrap can be looked on as 'ore.' That's why scrappers make good money recovering scrap gold from computers. The 'ore' content of a hundred pounds of old Pentium chips is much, much higher than any gold ore you can find anywhere. Even more so for Pentium Pro chips.
If it's supported on all that old iron, I don't see why there isn't a turnkey already in place for, say, something modern with equivalent horsepower. Say, for the mid-range PIC controllers.
I mean, if I am going to deploy this, it's going to be on hardware I can buy from Digi-Key, not the 'vintage' section on eBay.
I do not understand why people like you think the plastic will 'sit in the ground for thousands of years.'
The 'mineral rights' for the landfills will be worth a staggering amount a hundred years from now, when the technology to mine out and recover all the material 'stored' there has been developed.
In terms of 'net environmental impact' you and people like you insist on thinking like it will remain the year 2003 forever.
The better question is, "what's the lowest Slashdot ID that you ditched and moved on from."
I can't remember, nor can I remember how many accounts I've created here. At least a dozen. Almost all of them had +1 karma when I ditched them. NONE of them had been modded down to -1.
You get sick of the way people stalk your accounts like dogs sniffing butts, so you ditch the account, take a little time off, and come back with a new one. I mean, I can't imagine what a dull life it would be still having my first ID here...
I guess some people think that's cool or something, though.
Having a low id on Slashdot does NOT make someone a graybeard.
If you ever whistled into a phone because you didn't have a terminal and wanted to get SOME sort of reaction out of the 300 baud modem listening at the other end, then MAYBE you are old enough to have a graybeard as an uncle or older brother.
If you remember saving up to afford a wire-wrap tool, MAYBE you are old enough to be a graybeard.
If you've punched code out on 80 column punched cards, MAYBE you are old enough to be a graybeard.
Being some kid who 'got on Slashdot early' in 1998 does NOT make you a graybeard.
France has done a good job of proving that you don't need a lot of space to have efficient well-run nuclear power plants.
And Europe in general has done a pretty darn good job of shrinking the automobile to make it affordable. Here in the US we just need to kick the shit out of Detroit a little longer to try to drive some sense into them.

Clearly the 'Right Wing' need a clear headed expert like you to explain their strategy.
The MS protocols are crufty because the direction of the design of them is left up to middle managers.
That should explain it fully to anybody curious.
Are you going to piss all over yourself at the inauguration? Slippery indeed.

Except they kept the OS closed enough to it killed OpenDarwin.
I used to run Darwin on a Beige G3 that wasn't powerful enough to run MacOSX. But it's an abandonware OS now, largely because Apple shut them out.

So here's a long belated: Thanks, Bruce.
Betting on science fiction is a losing game.
Whoah! You're saying that on Slashdot.

Be careful about 'sitting corrected' on a Wikipedia cite. Look up there, that's all that was offered.
You have evidence to support this theory? Or are you relying on what the comic books you read describe as 'conservative political operatives.'
(yes, yes, we know you can flame)
You just described an entire class of politicians.
And some of them even believe their own rhetoric.

You become an official graybeard when you learn PDP-11 Assembly Language.
I mean, let's get away from the idea that anything about Slashdot is old.
How long have you been posting on Usenet?
Did you get a Usenet feed on one of your local BBSes?

And I can build PHP4 or PHP5 from source, or intall binaries, without sending any money at all to Newegg.
The proper term is 'thousands of kloc.'
Turn in your badge to Steve Ballmer on your way out.
Google's Usenet archive used to be DejaNews, it was easily searchable and it was independent.
It's a shame that Google got ahold of that.
There's nothing wrong with planning your own life.
It's when you start trying to plan other people's lives.
Gamers will always be using 'well whatever' because it doesn't matter to them.
When Microsoft goes out of business it will just be a minor speed bump for gamers.
That was your point, right?
The Windows machine that I keep around for those kinds of purposes has a retail box copy of Windows 2000 on it.
I don't need to read my Windows License. I know my rights.
1997 called and it wants back its alt.os.windows.advocacy spam.
