Look, don't get me wrong...I'm all for companies and industries working to make a profit. That is, after all, the entire point of capitalism.
That being said, FUCK insurance companies and the healthcare industry in general snubbing patient health to make a profit. As I said, I'm all about making money and I'm all about industry making money, but profiting off the misfortune and ill-health of people is the worst kind of dickery.
Near as I can tell, one of the differences is that the app supports searching the body section of emails...something which you can't do with the iPhone's standard email app. I could be wrong, but that's what I've gathered from the article & posters on this story.
Look at some of the less expensive "no name" eReaders out there. They don't look quite as nice as the big boys (Sony, Amazon, B&N, etc), but you can put whatever you want on them. Here are some good options:
As for my own writing (which, admittedly, could use some serious improvement) I like using "they're" instead of "they are" for two reasons:
1. It flows smoother 2. It sounds closer to how I would speak with someone face to face. I try to write articles on my website as if I'm talking to the reader, instead of having them read what I have written.
In a formal or legal document, I agree..."they are" is more appropriate. However, when it comes to discussion (be it in person or on a forum like Slashdot), striking a more conversational tone is preferable.
Why do the print guys have ANYTHING to say about what the digital version cost? Just lower print circulation down to bare minimum (i.e. enough for politicians and news stands), cut out home delivery, and go almost all digital, and then in 10-30 years cut out print circulation completely. It will lower their costs and increase their profit.
Why are newspapers so scared about giving up the most expensive part of their business?
If nothing else it will help cut down on the size of our landfills. Plant large amounts of trees in the space that would have been used, and bam...more atmosphere scrubbers on the ground.
Only $25 Million? Dude. If this process really works as well as they are reporting, this is a HUGE deal. Think of the implications of setting up these facilities in multiple parts of the country.
This won't solve our energy or trash problems, but it could put a sizeable dent in both. Huzzah!
Take another look at my post, specifically this part:
I mean, modify them, sure...but why completely halt them?
Destroying a house because you don't like the paint or because the doorframes aren't straight doesn't make any sense...you fix the problems.
I'm not asking people to give up anything...I'm asking them to work towards a solution. Flat out saying that the whole thing should be scrapped is the quickest way to ensuring NONE of it changes.
I wouldn't call Civ:Rev for the DS my greatest Civ experience, but being able to bang out a few turns no matter where I go has been awesome. It's also been great when we have a bunch of people over that don't want to/can't bring their gaming PCs over.
Bunch of nerds lounging on couches and bean bag chairs + multiplayer Civ Rev DS = awesome
True, but I think comparing MW2 (a game which has, lets face it, a small amount of content and variety) and Civ4 (a game which, when first shipped, had a rather large amount of variety and content.) I fully understand what you are saying, but provided the base game is varied enough and big enough, it should be fine for a little while.
Still, I agree with you that it needs to be moddable to have staying power.
I was one of those kids in high school who was extremely bored. I stopped caring about my school work when I got a B instead of an A on an English paper...the teacher cited the reason for dropping me a letter grade was because it was "too long". Well, they told us it had to be at least three pages, so I figured five was a good balance between doing more than the minimum but not doing too much.
After that, I stopped giving a fuck.
I never did any homework or classwork, yet still aced any tests thrown our way. I eventually dropped out, got a GED, and worked full-time as a mechanic for four years before quitting due to injury. For that period of time, I made more money than the teachers telling me I wouldn't amount to anything. Now I do mail merge programming at a call center.
Will I ever get into management? Nope, I'll be a peon for my whole life...I'm only responsible for myself at work, and that is EXACTLY how I want it to be. A bit more money would be nice, sure, but I still make more than enough to support my lifestyle.
I'm not sure how much I agree with that...I think its staying power will depend on how moddable it is, but I don't think that will matter at first. It took a couple of years before I started looking into the Civ4 modding scene as a way to extend the life of the game.
Some of our best LANs were had with Civilization 4...hell, I played through Mirror's Edge start to finish in between turns during an extended Civ 4 LAN weekend.
Crazy insanely excited about this. The screenshots look awesome.
While I certainly don't fault them (as you said, they would have had no idea), I personally would cover up any webcam or microphone built into a laptop given to me by school or work and just use external solutions.
My webcam at home that is attatched to my work-provided computer has cotton stuffed in its onboard mic when not in use, and is turned sideways so it is looking at the side of a printer.
That's just it though, it doesn't modify the functionality of the internal hardware in any way...as far as the DS knows, a normal game cartridge has been loaded into the cartridge slot. That's why you can use it without modifying the DS handheld.

I know, right?! The colors, man....the colors.
In 2010, Google being wolf-like and Microsoft being sheep-like is EXACTLY what I meant.
Sounds like a case of Google in a Microsoft's clothing.

At least for me.

Sticker price is $25 million. ROI, 3.5 years.

You're right, and I'm one of the happiest people I know :-)

It's called a GED. Unless you are trying to get into law school or medical school right out of high school, a GED is all that you need.

Eyedropper filled with water...problem solved :-)
How is OP offtopic? Tape could have been used to cover the webcam...

It's the form factor...the touchscreen would be nice just because I wouldn't have a stylus to keep track of, but it isn't a requirement.
This, ladies and gentleman, is a nerd. He will take any opportunity to post his home system specs
Even if those specs are unimpressive!
