  14. I vote miss leading scare mongering on Strong Passwords Not As Good As You Think · · Score: 0

Strong passwords are are useless and only cause users problems? That is absolutely stupid. First off, strong passwords have nothing to do with phishing schemes, they are about brute force / guessing passwords. Just like a seat belt (a safety device) on a car isn't meant to protect you against car fires. Protecting you from car fires is done in a completely different way.

Strong passwords have a purpose and that purpose hasn't changed and is extremely valuable in protecting you accounts.

Phishing != brute force attack. Stop scare mongering.

  16. Easier said than done on What Open Source Can Learn From Apple · · Score: 5, Interesting

Apple spends a lot of money implementing their design philosophies. Lets face it. It's not cheap to design user friendly high quality UI. Most companies that build open source products aren't serving the Desktop; they're serving the server market. The few that actually are (Ubuntu) are taking Linux and the open source desktop to a higher level.

I am very thankful for Mark Shuttleworth and what he is doing for the Linux Desktop. Everyone knows Redhat flip-flops on the Desktop subject all the time and never actually get much done for it.

I use Zenoss (open source) and like it quite a bit. It takes time to customize for your setup, but unless you have a bland network, that is almost always the case. I will say this, it's much easier to setup the Nagios was a couple of years ago when I was using Nagios. Though I've heard there has been some improvement.
