Commercial software is what leads to open source software in many cases. When someone makes an app that you have to pay for, someone else will write one that you don't. MySQL was not first, it was the answer for those that couldn't afford Oracle, DB2, etc.
Most open source programmers enjoy programming. One will see a need and fill it with their own project. The more people that want that need filled, the more projects and higher quality projects we will see.
I've had more than a few desktops with issues of Firefox 3.5.x causing blue screens of death on Windows 7 64bit. Not sure about other flavors of Windows 7.
Some Googling suggests it's a recent update with Firefox others suggest it's a Firefox / Flash issue. Either way, I was forced to stop allowing the use of Firefox while this issue continues.
Steve Jobs should be beaten to a pulp. So many people hate Microsoft for the what they did yet are Apple fanboys at the same time whom are doing the same @#$%ing thing!
I think Apple makes some nice products, but I absolutely despise Steve Jobs and how he has cloned Apple into Microsoft 2.0. I hope they get crushed by the EU and at some point the US for anti-competitive practices.
Very cool, but of course there are questions about Google's true motivations behind knowing every site you visit."
Almost everyone at work practically uses Google to find their site anyhow. Instead of typing the URL into the address bar, they Google site they are going to and click on the link. It's like DNS anyhow for them and Google knows where they are going already!
Maybe one day Microsoft will get rid of the Windows Registry. It's like putting port holes on the bottom of your boat. Sure, they let you see the fish, but sooner or later one is going to break and sink your ship.
The Windows registry has always been a bane of Windows use since it's inception.
This isn't true. In Photoshop, I use the selector tool and select an area and crop it. In Gimp I have to add a layer, then select an area a crop. WTF is the point of adding a layer so I can crop it?
I have no issue with this. Gimp is more than most people need anyhow and maybe it will be a good kick in the nads to get the Gimp guys to clean it up a little more.
Photoshop is a lot more intuitive than Gimp is. I always feel like I have to jump through hoops to do the same thing in Gimp as I do in Photoshop.
If you look at the differences in the US 3G coverage maps shown in the Verizon commercials, I think $5B is freaking cheap!
This is probably why Google has threaten to leave China in the first place. Just using the filtering issue as the public excuse.
I suggest all those that support this get on a plane with a terrorist.
It's coming, The French Revolution Part Duex!

It's unlocked. How soon to Ad-Block for Android comes out?

Next he will want to burn himself in Tiananmen Square! :D
Your right. Throwing all your eggs into one basket is by far the best way to do anything!
I guess you've never heard of configuration management systems. Or ever thought of using LDAP for application configurations rather than a registry.

Maybe when you can get sued so bad that your business dies. Would you grovel then? I thought so.
This would be classified as a fund, not an exchange.

Charge a single tax rate for all on-line purchases and pay each state based on the amount sold to that state.
That removes the issue of constantly varying tax rates. All Amazon has to do is classify each sell based on the state the item was shipped too.
Logan's Run will promptly remedy that issue! :)
Umm, he owns HDNet AND he sold Broadcast.com to Yahoo to become a billionaire.
Was that appropriate? Posting that voice mail that has names numbers and locations?
Extremely poor ethics here at Slashdot.
Ok guys, our buddy Darl needs a job. Who's hiring? ;)
Man, I hate Micros... err Apple. Actually, I think I just hate Steve Jobs. Most of Apple's fascist type behavior appears to be coming from him.
If I post on here that I would pay someone $50 to punch Jack Thompson in the face, would that cause him to sue Slashdot for $40m? :)
I have a feeling there is going to be a lot of attacks on their DNS infrastructure in the near future.
That said, they will probably get to prove (if possible) that they are a more secure system. ...or not.
Can we look anymore like IE8? Did I ever tell you I don't like IE8's UI?
